Can a country kitten adapt to a small city apartment after moving?

Cocoa can adjust to a new home. I moved across the world from the US to New Zealand, and brought my two cats with me. That's a huge move, and they adjusted fine. Definitely take him back when you get your own place.

Mia will not likely get depressed as long as you set aside time to play with her and give her love and affection. Cats will do well in a small apartment because they aren’t as active as dogs. Once you get to the new house, it is recommended to restrict her to one room for 2-3 days and it is also recommended to not let her outside the house for two weeks. keep the cat carrier open in the new house as it will be a comfort zone for her during the first 24 hours. try bringing as much from her stuff as you can to the new house (water and food bowls, scratching polls...).

This will definitely be a difficult adjustment for him. I would be sure to have a lot of toys and things for him to climb on and explore to help keep his environmental enrichment up. You may also want to get some feliway diffusers and sprays to help keep him calm and hopefully make the transition as smoothe as possible. Feliway is a cat pheronmone which helps to calm cats. It doesn't work on all cats though. If he doesn't take well to it, be prepared that you may have to rehome him to give him the best quality of life. If you have someone that can bring her food at least once a day, you can leave her at home without any problem and this would be the best option, otherwise you could take her with you but she might get stressed from the car ride and the new place.

I would not recommend such a journey in an older cat especially if her routine will be changed from a free ranging cat to an indoor cat as this would provide an ongoing environmental stress even after the journey. Contact local humane societies and shelters to see if they can help provide a foster home for her or inquire of your neighbours if anyone is willing to monitor her and take responsibility for her ongoing care and health needs as she gets older.

Making them completely indoor cats would actually be doing them and the local wildlife a favor. Cats get hurt by other animals, hit by cars, lost, and exposed to diseases when allowed to roam outdoors. They may not like it at first if they were especially fond of going out, but they will learn and adapt and some even come to prefer it. Make sure they have plenty of perches and places to climb and look out windows, if they can have access to a porch that is fully enclosed they would enjoy that as well,
