Why is my cat's healing wound worse after a vet took blood from it?

Cat bites often become badly infected and if the wound is not healing, he has developed a fever r is otherwise unwell you should discuss the new symptoms with your vet. They may wish to prescribe an antibiotic if the wound has become infected

I am sorry to hear about Kallu. A photo of the wounds may help us to better answer your question, but I would definitely recommend bringing Kallu to a veterinarian for examination as it sounds like his wounds are serious and may require sutures or bandaging, and most likely will require antibiotics as bite wounds introduce bacteria into the tissue and can become infected.

Judging from the picture, this could be a ruptured abscess or secondary to self trauma from him scratching at the area. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. He will need the hair clipped from around the wound and the wound cleaned. If just a small amount of blood seeped through the bandage it is probably still ok. If the bandage is becoming saturated with blood or the area of blood on the bandage is spreading, you should call your vet to see if they want to re-examine the area. I would not recommend changing it yourself unless your vet showed you how to change the bandage. The wound may need to be treated differently if it is actively bleeding. I would follow your vet's instructions and leave the bandage on as long as recommended as most wounds do require a bandage and not "airing out" initially. Best of luck to you and Patzo.

Costs depend on your area as all veterinary hospitals set their own prices. The wound likely got infected. Bite or scratch wounds from another animal often become infected and need medical attention. Another potential cause would be if Baldy is able to lick at it. The bacteria in his mouth and the constant irritation will make it difficult for that wound to heal. Good luck !

If it is getting worse with conservative treatment, then it is time to have Pluto physically examined by your veterinarian. The wound may need to be debrided (have dead tissue removed) so that healing can occur. It may need sutures and a drain depen7on severity. Systemic antibiotics may also be needed. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking until he sees the doctor. Given current events, you may need to drop him off at the clinic then wait for your veterinarian to call you to discuss exam findings and treatment options.
