My new cat won't eat after owner passed. When should I see a vet?

It’s a medical emergency when a cat won’t eat, and if they go longer than 72 hours without eating, they will develop a fatty liver. A fatty liver is fatal without treatment. Koko cannot wait until Monday to be seen, i strongly urge you to take him into an ER vet now.

If you don't think she has eaten anything at all in three days, she needs to be seen by a vet right away. Cats have to eat or else suffer liver damage in just a few days. If you haven't seen her eat but she is still using the litterbox and producing stool, then she's probably been eating something but it's still a good idea to get her seen as soon as possible.

I would recommend to take Willow to the veterinarian for an examine. Not eating is generally a sign of illness. The doctor will examine her and check her temperature and may recommend diagnostics. Poor girl. Not eating is a serious symptom in a cat especially. I would absolutley recommend taking Ava in to your local vet to be evaluated at this point. She could have just about anything going on, so the vet will want to start with some baseline bloodwork and a urinalysis to gather clues as to why she is ill so that we know how to best treat her moving forward. Poor Cathy! Not eating is quite serious in cats, as when they go long enough without eating, they will develop a fatty liver. A fatty liver is fatal without treatment. She may not be eating because she has a dental problem, systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. Please take her into a vet now. Best of luck.

If Sepia seems really depressed and lethargic, or if she starts vomiting multiple times in one day, then she needs to see an emergency vet right away as this may be serious. Otherwise, if she continues to not want to eat much then she needs to be seen when you can get an appointment, and I would recommend full blood work and an abdominal xray or ultrasound. She could have kidney disease or some other kind of metabolic issue going on like hyperthyroidism or pancreatitis. She is a young kitty so hopefully it's nothing serious! However, it could also be related to a medical problem. Whatever the cause, when a cat does not eat or drink for several days, this can lead to dehydration, weakness, and secondary liver problems, especially for a kitten. Because of this, I would recommend taking Sheeba to the vet within the next 24 hours. They can perform a full physical exam and run some tests to rule out a medical issue. They can also provide supportive medications to improve her hydration, appetite, and comfort. If the vet confirms she is in good physical health, you can try using Feliway, a feline pheromone spray designed to reduce stress in cats. Also ensure she has easy access to food and water in the place where she is hiding. You can gradually try interacting with her more and more, through offering treats, and speaking to her softly and gently.
