My cat won't drink water in hot weather. How can I make my cat drink?

I'd feed Cupquake canned food, or add some low sodium gently warmed chicken broth to her dry food. I'd also recommend getting her a pet water fountain. It provides a continuous source of fresh water, and encourages the cat to drink. I have one for my cats, and they love it. You can get one at a pet store. I hope this helps.

If it has been 3-4 days without drinking water than I would expect him to show signs of dehydration or illness. Could he be drinking water without you knowing that he is drinking? If he eats wet food than he may not drink as much as the water content in wet food is much higher than dry food. Some cats like to drinking running water so you could buy a fountain water bowl and see if that encourages him to drink more. The cold temperature of the water should not be a problem. If it continues than have your vet examine him to determine the cause.

That's extremely hot for a cat, and Gizmo could easily get heat stroke. Put a fan in front of him to cool him down, and make sure he has cool water to drink. Offer him wet food, as that has a high moisture content and will get water into him. You can also soak his food in some tuna juice from canned tuna packed in spring water. I hope this helps.

Hello, thank er you for using PetCoach. I would not necessarily be "concerned" but it would be good for him to drink more water. Two good ways to get more water into a cat are: 1. Feed canned food and 2. Get a water fountain for him. Cats tend to drink more from a source of running water. If he eats canned food it obviously has a higher water content than dry food. I suggest you do those two things and see how things go from there. Some cats will not drink still water. Try a small pet fountain to keep the water moving. Keeping Chase from bolting outside is a bit more difficult. It will require close supervision, especially when people enter or exit. Make sure doors latch shut and are secure. Check your property for anything that might be drawing her outdoors. If she seems stressed or anxious inside, try using a pheromone product such as Feliway spray or diffuser to enhance her calm.

Hi, I am sure Autumn is missing her brother however this would not normally affect the amount of water she drinks. Cats would normally get water from their preys in nature, so they tend not to drink much. You can try to increase the water intake by adding an extra water station, ideally keep water and food bowls separate and use a large bowl where the cat does not touch the edges with the whiskers when drinking. Some cats like to drink from running water and you will be able to find different ones on line. Hope this helps.
