Why is my cat suddenly wobbly, vomiting, not eating, and hiding?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 3 months old | 7.3 lbs

My cat is normally energetic and socialable and he was a few hours ago, but I noticed that he's walking slow, a little wobbly, one of his ears is turned down a bit, he vomited a few times, and he's not hungry at all, even though normally he's crazy when foods out. He's also hiding from me and the other cats. Is it a cold? Or could it be something serious?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oreo. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. Vomiting is not a sign of a cold and most cats that vomit are not wobbly. Is there any chance he could have eaten something toxic? That would be my first concern. If so, he can possibly be given something to help absorb any remaining toxin from his system. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Oreo. Sounds like you should have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Vomiting and nausea are caused by many things and now it sounds like he may be really uncomfortable or having some abdominal pain. Causes include worms/parasites, pancreatitis, gall bladder/liver problems, dietary indiscretion (eating things he should not eat), dietary intolerance/sensitivity, hairballs, infection, inflammation, among many others. Again let your vet see him soon and they can evaluate him and then advise treatment/tests to perform. Possible tests include fecal exam, blood tests, xrays, and ultrasound exam. Hopefully they can determine what the cause is and then advise a treatment plan. I hope Oreo gets well really soon.

If Oreo is new to your home and you gave him a different food than before, that could be the cause of his vomiting. It could also be he has a GI illness, ate something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could have pancreatitis. Because he has been vomiting for two days, it's time to see a vet. I would take him into one asap.

This may be due to stress, and perhaps swallowing some soapy water. I would wrap him in a warm towel just out of the dryer, and let him snuggle with you. Once he relaxes and calms down I expect him to feel better in a few hours. If he stops eating or drinking or starts with a lot of vomiting then please bring him right in for an exam and treatment. My old cat isn't eating, is wobbly. Should I take her to the vet?

Your kitty needs to be seen by a vet. These are concerning symptoms in an older cat. They can become dehydrated very easily. Not eating can be caused by numerous things including things with the gi tract itself and diseases of any other organ system (kidneys, liver, etc). Your vet can perform an exam and then likely will recommend starting with bloodwork +/- xrays. This is the best plan to figure out what is going on and to get your kitty feeling better. This is an emergency. Your cant needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. She needs a thorough exam and blood work. The signs are too unspecific to pinpoint the problem without an exam. This could be a central nervous condition or weakness due to an electrolyte imbalance or a viral disease. Please take her to a vet right away.

Why is my cat not eating and wobbly after her recent vet visit?

That is strange that Misty has gone off her food lately and that her balance is off. It could be that she has an ear infection, causing her balance to be off and not want to eat. I would try to tempt her to eat by offering her small amounts of boiled white meat chicken (no bones), or soaking her dry food in gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth, or tuna juice. If this doesn't tempt her to eat, I would take her into the vet in the morning for an exam. When a cat doesn't eat for at least three days, they will develop a fatty liver, which is fatal without treatment. It's best to avoid that from happening, so I would have her seen by a vet in the morning if she still isn't eating. The vet can diagnose what is causing her symptoms, and can treat her for them.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Mickey. If he is still displaying these symptoms, he needs to see his veterinarian today. Is there any chance he could have eaten anything that he shouldn't have? Intoxications commonly cause disorientation and balance issues. If not, he could have an inner ear problem affecting his balance. It is best to have him examined. If he is still off balance, it will make him nauseous. My cat is sleeping more, not playing, and eating less. What's wrong?

Hello, and thank you for your question. Cats are notoriously good at hiding their signs of pain and illness. Often the only indication is a decrease in energy and appetite. Possible causes could include pancreatitis, systemic infection, gut parasites, or dental or abdominal pain. If her symptoms are not improving within the next 24 hours, I would recommend taking her to the vet. They can perform a full physical exam, checking for any areas of pain or discomfort, and check for fever and dehydration. They may recommend bloodwork and viral testing to pinpoint a diagnosis. At minimum, they can help rehydrate her if she is dehydrated, and offer medications to improve her appetite and comfort while searching for a diagnosis. In the meantime, offer her some other wet and dry food options in case she has just become picky with her food, and monitor her for any vomiting or diarrhea. I’m sorry to hear about Waffles! I hope by now she is improving. Toads are possible but in the future, I recommend just rinsing her mouth out with water for a few seconds. You don’t mention Waffles age but other possibilities include: trauma, clot/stroke type event, injury/pain, or seizures.
