Why is my 5-month-old outdoor cat suddenly weak, wobbly, not eating?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 lbs

I have a 5 month old cat she is suddenly weak qont eat or drink and wobbly she is an outside cat she is usually a lap cat and very energetic and doesnt lay around much what could this be? Has only been this way for a day

Poor Tosio! I'm sorry to hear that she's sick. If she isn't fully vaccinated, I would be concerned that she might have an illness called feline panleukopenia, which is a very serious infectious disease of kittens that causes lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, and often death if not treated promptly. It's also possible that she may have gotten into something toxic, or contracted some other type of infection.

Since she sounds quite sick, I would recommend taking her to an emergency clinic this evening to be seen. If you're not sure where to go, try calling your regular vet's office - their voicemail message should have contact information for your nearest ER or an on-call doctor for emergencies.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oreo. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. Vomiting is not a sign of a cold and most cats that vomit are not wobbly. Is there any chance he could have eaten something toxic? That would be my first concern. If so, he can possibly be given something to help absorb any remaining toxin from his system. Why is my 5-month-old kitten suddenly weak, unsteady, and irritated?

Sorry to hear about Missy's current condition. The symptoms you are describing can be caused by things such as transient hypoglycemia, an infectious or inflammatory process, a neurologic condition, inner ear infections, or a cardiac condition resulting in weakness. If this kind of symptom persists for more than a day, or stops then repeats itself again, I would strongly recommend a physical exam with a veterinarian to rule out some of these conditions. DIagnostic testing will likely be required to do this. Hope this helps!

My cat's head is tilted, has balance issues, and can't eat. Why?

Head tilt could be caused by deep inner ear infection (or polyp), stroke, infection such as toxoplasmosis, stroke, or even tumor although that would be rare at her age. If the toxo test comes back normal then I would consider requesting a referral to a neurologist where an MRI of the brain can be done. If that is not possible then I would trial treat with antibiotics and steroids. I am so sorry that she is going through this. I am sure you are very worried. I’m sorry to hear about Waffles! I hope by now she is improving. Toads are possible but in the future, I recommend just rinsing her mouth out with water for a few seconds. You don’t mention Waffles age but other possibilities include: trauma, clot/stroke type event, injury/pain, or seizures. If she hasn’t improved or is worsening in any way, it’s time to see the emergency vet. Best of luck to you and Waffles.

My old cat isn't eating, is wobbly. Should I take her to the vet?

Your kitty needs to be seen by a vet. These are concerning symptoms in an older cat. They can become dehydrated very easily. Not eating can be caused by numerous things including things with the gi tract itself and diseases of any other organ system (kidneys, liver, etc). Your vet can perform an exam and then likely will recommend starting with bloodwork +/- xrays. This is the best plan to figure out what is going on and to get your kitty feeling better. My kittens are lethargic and wobbly but still eating. Should I worry?

Poor kitites. Lethargy and weakness can cause pets to stagger. Numerous things oculd be causing this including: anemia (low red blod cell count), or any other underlying illness. Without any other sympotms to speak of, there isn't much else to speculate on. Hopefullyt he vet can gether more information after a thorough physical exam and possibly even testing for infectious disease (FELV/FIV). I hope that your kitties are going to be ok moving forward.
