My cat has a white lump on its head after a cut. What should I do?

These generally are find to just keep an eye on but if you would like it gone, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the mass and discuss options for removal. Thank you for providing a picture of Jack's spot! This little lump could be a cyst or a benign tumor that is annoying him, but without seeing him in person I can't say for certain. Because he is messing with it, it would be a good idea for Jack to be seen by a vet for it. The vet can diagnose what this lump is, and what treatment is required if any.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell what is going on with a skin problem by just looking at the skin since most skin problems look very similar. My best recommendation would be to have your veterinarian perform some simple skin tests to get a sample of the area to examine under the microscope. They will be able to evaluate for bacteria, yeast, mites, fungus and abnormal cells. Hopefully that will determine what is causing the problem and how to treat it. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. This one does not look like a typical benign and harmless ski tag (still could be !), so please take Fluffington to your local vets for an appointment. Your vet may recommend to treat it with anti-inflammatory cream or to aspirate it with a needle to find out what type of growth this is.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I understand your concern! It is hard to tell exactly what a skin mass is by just looking at it. You need either to biopsy or aspirate it for a definitive diagnosis. With that being said the bump on Kajoor appears to resemble a sebaceous adenoma. Which is more common in dogs. I would consider removing to for biopsy. If it is <8mm and Kajoor is a calm cat your Vet could consider removing it with a local block of lidcaine and a punch biopsy device. It’s hard to be sure what this is from the photo. The most common lump that come up quickly in cats is an abscess, or pocket of infection. They develop from a puncture wound usually. If it’s an infection it will be sore, hot to the touch, and feel soft. Due to Sampson’s age though this could be a mass or tumor. Those lumps are firm, non painful and do not feel warm. I recommend a veterinary exam to determine what the lump is. They can take a needle and examine some cells from inside the lump and get a diagnosis. If it’s an infection this should heal with antibiotics. If it’s a growth, depending on the diagnosis they may just watch it for enlargement or recommend surgical removal.
