My cat has a small, painless white lump in his ear. What should I do?

There can be multiple causes for a small bump on the tip of a cat's ear, such as a cyst, focal infection, small growth, or another underlying medical cause. It is difficult to advise you further about Timon without being able to see what you are, but if you are concerned or if this developed quickly I would recommend having him evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine what may be going on, and if any treatment is needed at this time. These generally are find to just keep an eye on but if you would like it gone, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the mass and discuss options for removal. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From your pictures the white thing looks like a skin mass. It could be something benign like a skin tag or an sebaceous adenoma or something more serious. Sadly a lot of things look the same. I am not sure how old Jack is, but it might be best to have it looked at by your Vet and determine if it is a mass. If it is they may recommend removing it and sending it out for biopsy. I'm sorry to hear of your concerns with Bagheera. The most likely causes for an acute swelling such as that shown in the picture include an abscess, trauma or allergic reaction. I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian. They may recommend a fine needle aspirate of the swelling to get a better idea of what's going on. If it is an abscess, surgery may be required to drain the infection.

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I cannot tell where the lump is on the photo but most if not all lumps needs to be evaluated by a vet. Especially in Simba's case since the lump has gotten swollen. Your vet will perform a full physical exam and determine if the lump needs to be aspirated. Lumps can be anything from an abscess, mass/growth, hernia etc. Your vet will determine after an exam what the next best steps and treatments are. Good luck!
