My cat had a blockage. Is a weak urine stream normal post-treatment?

Yes, this can be normal. Urinary blockage effects a cat's entire system and can make them feel very poorly. When the catheter is removed there is usually a fair bit of inflammation due to the catheter having been in place. The fact that he is producing urine is a good sign. You want to see him continue and start to produce more and more. If he appears to get duller or stop urinating take him back to the vet.

Poor Oreo! After a blockage, cats might only urinate small amounts frequently, but as long as he's peeing, that's positive. I would expect to see some blood, as he has sustained trauma to his urethra with the blockage and subsequent unblocking. I would continue to monitor him very closely, as reblocking can occur 7-14 days from the time of discharge. This is because the urologic syndrome that led to blocking in the first place is still continuing and as long as the episode continues, blocking is a possibility. Any loss of appetite or vomiting should be reported to your veterinarian at once. If there is any concern about reblocking, your vet can determine fairly easily if the cat has re-blocked.

He is probably still suffering from an infection/inflammation and he probably received muscle relaxant medications which causes loss of control on the bladder. once the medication course is over and he is healed it will stop, but until then it's actually a good thing that he is peeing everywhere, it means he is not blocked anymore.

Temporary Incontinence is very common following relief of obstruction and tends to resolve over 10-14days. The reasons why are poorly understood but seem to be related to muscle weakness and poor nerve control as well as an increase in urine production following kidney insult and tends to improve gradually.

I think the treatment plan is sound and you are all on the right track. As long as she is producing some urine I would not be overly worried. A blockage is not impossible in a female cat but it is uncommon. Very common to have a blockage in male cats as their urethra is very narrow (a females is wider). Only be worried if she is producing no urine at all. If you have multiple cats it is best to separate her and put her in her own room with her own food/water/litter box, etc so you can keep track. She can have stones and cystitis concurrently so I suggest you also try to reduce stress by using Feliway diffusers in the house (calming pheromones) and try to increase water consumption by giving her a water fountain to drink from. Many studies have shown that cats will drink twice as much water if they have running water to drink from. Hope this helps. I would recommend a further check up and blood test as renal issues can come up many hours/days later than initial presentation. Incontinence can be secondary to lack of bladder contraction due to over-distended bladder (due to blockage), there are anyway medications available to help contraction.
