Brown crust on my female cat's vulva: Is it an infection?

In an unspayed cat I would worry about pyometra, an infection in the uterus. This can be a very serious, life threatening condition that needs to be evaluated and treated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If there is an emergency clinic near your home I would consider bringing Ellie in to be examined. If there is no way to get to a veterinarian before Monday I would watch Ellie very closely for any changes in activity level, appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, water intake, urination, etc. so you can give your veterinarian as much helpful information as possible when you arrive. There are, of course, other reasons for discharge around the hind end (such as dried diarrhea, expressed anal gland discharge, flea "dirt", among other things), I cannot rule any of these out without diagnostic tests. Your vet will likely recommend blood work, a urinalysis, abdominal radiographs or an abdominal ultrasound, or possibly a fecal examination. I hope this is helpful for you and Ellie!

This could be associated with some types of autoimmune disease, vaginal infection, urinary tract infection, parasites, among a few other things. I would recommend having Zelda examined by a vet to determine what could be going on.

Hello! Yes, cats that are overweight often get an infected rash in this area. Cats have trouble grooming this area when they are overweight. If the area is sore and infected looking, it is much better to take Carmen in to see her vet to have the area checked. Your vet can likely prescribe a cream to use topically. At the clinic, they will likely be able to shave and clean the area fully, and this will help things to heal up normally.

Please check with your vets office about the reason for the wet food recommended, if this was due to inflammation of the urinary tract this may be causing the itching and discomfort also. i recommend a urinary analysis in order to identify any medical complications such as infections, crystals or diabetes. It may be necessary to modify her diet depending on results, many brands have urinary diets which she may tolerate better

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are describing could be a yeast infection in the folds of the vulva. I would recommend cleaning this several times per day with a spray such as malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area until resolved. This product can be found online quite easily. If there is no improvement or she worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Poor girl. It looks like Memow has an infection going on there possibly. I would get this checked by your vet. The hair needs to be shaved away and the skin looked at closely. If there is an infection, as suspected, then Me-mow will need a short course of antibiotics to hopefully clear this up. The vet will also likely want to check her for a UTI, since this is a common cause for infections near the genital area. If she is not grooming well, then this could also indicate an internal organ issue, so bloodwork may be recommended to check her full health status and make sure we don't miss anything underlying. Hello. This looks like a very severe infection. The topical washes that you are using may be irritating the area more as they are not formulated for feline skin. This kitty really needs to see a veterinarian to be examined and treated. At minimum, she needs a prescription antibiotic. Your vet may want to do a urinalysis or an X-ray . Please try to have her seen ASAP.
