My cat threw up, is tired, and has pale gums. Is he too hot?

Oh that does not sound good. Throwing up so much warrants an urgent visit to the veterinarian and some blood tests checking kidney and thyroid parameters. Pale gums could point to a blood disease. The signs are very unspecific, therefore blood tests are necessary to help with a diagnosis. Please schedule an appointment with your veterinarian tomorrow.

Hypothermic kittens can be much more sick than they let on. Vomiting can be caused by many things, including hairballs, food allergy, eating too fast, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, IBD, systemic disease (liver, kidney, pancreas, diabetes), among others. If the vomiting happens for more than 24 hours, or if Tom does not eat in that time, he needs to see a vet immediately. Continue to encourage him to drink water and eat canned cat food. You can use a heating pad on the low setting to help warm him up, but check often that it is not too hot as it is quite easy to burn their skin. You can leave the heating pad where he can sit on it, but if he moves away do not force him to go back.

Pale gums and inappropriate dietary habits (commonly called Pica) are quite common in anemic states and this should be checked as soon as possible to find underlying cause. A blood test and urine analysis is needed in order to start investigating clinical suspicion of lower red blood cells. I would recommend an immediate check up, treatment and outcome will depend on the results of clinical examination and blood tests. This temperature is slightly below normal. Normal temp is 37.7 to 38.8. We can sometimes see the body temp be a bit below normal when their blood circulation is less not as good as it should be — most often we see this this due to heart disease or dehydration. If he is very dumpy and lethargic (which is what I assume you mean by “lifeless”) and recently vomited as well, please take him to your vet. They may recommend blood tests and possibly xrays. Treatment will depend on what they find on exam and any testing.

Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Turtle evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid he is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check his hydration status and give him medications to make him feel better. Good luck!

What a gorgeous cat! I am sorry he is not feeling well. Licking his lips is a sign of nausea. Even though he may not be vomiting today he is showing signs that he is still not feeling well. If he is eating (even small amounts) and drinking water as well as interacting with you, urinating, and defecating than he may be able to wait until Wednesday. However, if Michaleto's breathing continues to be abnormal at all to you this may be a sign that he is in pain or has some sort of disease of his heart or lungs. Any abnormal breathing - whether fast or hard - should be seen as soon as possible by a veterinarian. I hope he is feeling better soon.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. She may be very dehydrated and the pale gums may indicate they she is anemic. I am concerned about her based on your description and would recommend that she see a veterinarian as soon as possible to help better determine what could be going on. I would recommend testing her blood and checking her for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. I hope this helps and that she is ok.
