My cat vomits after eating, vet tests normal. Should I go back?

It looks like Marshmellow has an extensive history, and in order for any veterinarian to help, they would need all of the diagnostics and medical history to form an opinion. Something is definitely wrong with her and if your current vet is not giving satisfying answers, then you should probably seek a second opinion. You may also consider bringing Marshmellow to a specialist. There are medicine and surgery specialists located in the Twin Cities at the University of Minnesota. This can all get rather expensive, so it's up to you how much you want to pursue this. I think it would be best to at-least have another vet give an opinion. Vomiting in cats can be very difficult to diagnose the underlying cause, and often require many tests and treatment trials to find the answer. I would recommend working him up for either food allergies, or IBD. IBD would require a biopsy to diagnose. A scope is recommended as well for this. The other thing you could trial first is a diet trial for food allergies. Diet trials are very tedious and difficult to perform, as you need to feed the diet for 8 weeks, and have that the ONLY food that goes into Nigel, including medicated chews. You start with a diet like Hill's z/d or Hill's hypoallergenic. If the vomiting improves, then you slowly add in foods, one at a time, to determine what causes the allergy. Just switching foods for a week or two will not tell you if it is a food allergy. Discuss these options with your vet. If these don't work, then I would recommend a consult with an internal medicine specialist. Best of luck with Nigel!

I would talk to your vet about submitting a GI panel or performing biopsies. Even with normal ultrasounds, IBD or lymphoma may not be able to be diagnosed. Empirical deworming may be indicated. Steroid trials may help. Has the thyroid level been checked? There is so much more information we need to be able to help you in this complicated case. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Poutcha. His blood work appears fairly unremarkable. His blood sugar is a bit high, but his fructosamine level is normal. Is he diabetic or was this just a screening test? Since he is not improving, I recommend a urine sample be tested and bloodwork for pancreatitis. X-rays of his chest to look for cancer are always a good idea as well. Based on these results, additional bloodwork or even an abdominal ultrasound by a radiologist might be warranted. If Boxer is not improving and is not eating or drinking, I would recommend taking him back to the veterinarian for a recheck and having anti-nausea medications and fluids given to see if this helps further. If he continues to not eat, he may need a feeding tube if his liver becomes affected. I hope this helps! I would avoid giving Calpol as cats are very sensitive to this drug and can develop toxicity quite easily. There are safer fever reducers such as Meloxicam that you can have your veterinarian prescribe for you. I hope this helps! I hate to hear this is happening to Murcis. Situations like this are tough because no test is pointing towards to cause for the illness. I recommend to speak with your veterinarian about a prokinetic drug to help rule out any ileus that gut may be experiencing. This may be temporary if it is related to an underlying condition or permanent it could be the cause of these symptoms. The ultrasound may have given some clues to the gut motility so ask about that as well. I also recommend to discuss a food trial with a hydrolyzed protein diet and possibly even a course of steroids in case this is inflammatory bowel disease.
