My cats vomit, have diarrhea, lick things. Should I give vitamins?

I am so sorry to hear that both of your cats are having a hard time. To be on the safe side I would not continue to feed this bag of food to your cats. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Because you lrnfirat cat has recovered and you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few days, I would continue to monitor Munchkin at home. This is what you can do; Rest Munchkin's gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and provide plenty of fresh water. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Ingesting or licking off a small amount of shampoo shouldn't be too worrisome. The vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite may have another medical cause such as an infection from a virus or bacteria or perhaps a parasite. I would recommend Nami see her veterinarian for an exam and evaluation soon. Your veterinarian may want to test Nami's stool or run blood work or x-rays to help determine a cause so she can get appropriately treated. Until you can get to her veterinarian, you feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice to help settle her stomach. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

Hello. With one acute overdose of Lysine & DMG, you are most likely going to deal with the GI signs for a bit, & this will be mostly vomiting & diarrhea. The half life of Lysine is pretty quick, so it should be out of their bodies in a day or so. If the vomiting persists, you may need to take them in to your vet for anti-nausea medication & perhaps some fluids, so just monitor how they act over the next few hours. If they settle down, then they will be fine. If the vomiting remains persistent, then you should seek veterinary care. This is not the first time I have seen this with cats. Poor cats. Yes cats can catch bugs and get ill just like people can. And since both were sick simultaneously, it has to be something they both got into and ingested or were exposed to. It is very odd that nothing has changed in their environment, so finding out the culprit is going to be tough. You also may want t check with the company that made the filter you just changed just to make sure no recalls exist. Also I would consider just changing the filter altogether just to cover every possibility here. Also make sure that there also isn’t any chance of them getting into medications in the home as well. Regardless of that, they should be seen by your vet if they are still not eating and unwell. That is a long time to go without a good appetite, especially for a cat, and at the very least the vet can give them anti-nausea medicine, antibiotics (if indicated), and fluids to treat for any undelrying dehydration. Chronic diarrhea in an older cat with vomiting can be a sign of an inflammatory bowel disease or intestinal cancer. The only way to differentiate between the two disease is a surgery to take biopsies of the intestines and have them analyzed. Based on the diagnosis, the diet may be changed or vitamin supplements or steroids may be added to manage her symptoms. They will check for parasite and check her labs for any renal or endocrine disease

If you haven't already, bringing in a stool sample of Loki's to your vet is best. Internal parasites are a common cause for intermittent diarrhea, and may also cause them to exhibit strange behaviors such as pica if they aren't getting enough nutrition due to the parasites. A complete exam is also a good idea to make sure there isn't illness or malnutrition causing the problem as well.

I would err on the side of caution and get them seen today if you can, tomorrow, especially if they don't seem better. The vomitus looks like a hairball to me, but it's hard to tell. They may have overeaten, but unless that's something they already do, given the opportunity, I don't see that being as likely as something else, possibly getting into something they shouldn't have. Your vet will do an exam, possibly bloodwork, and maybe more//other diagnostics depending on what they find. Based on these results, your vet will have a better idea of what's going on and be able to recommend a treatment plan if needed.
