My cat had a UTI. How long should she stay on SO urinary diet?

In mild cases, any wet food may be sufficient to keep the urine suitably dilute to prevent recurrence but i would recommend 6weeks of the specialist urinary wet food to stabilise and maximise recovery. If symptoms recur then i would recommend urinary food only thereafter

If she is maintained on her prescription diet and you make sure she remains very well hydrated that will make all the difference and will likely cut down on problems and subsequent vet visits. If there is a canned version of her prescription food, offer her that in the interest of getting as much water in her as possible. Offer a fountain or multiple bowls around the house so she is always close to fresh water. Add water to wet or dry food to increase her fluid intake. With such care, and your ability to have her looked after as she needs it, there's no reason why she shouldn't live a long and happy life with you.

I believe you're referring to Royal Canines brand of urinary diet SO. In conjunction with appropriate medication SO is a great food to help prevent urinary tract infections. Lulu will likely need to be on this food for the rest of her life. Any changes to a non-urinary diet may trigger a recurrence of crystals or stones. If she does not resolve after a month of anabiotic's and diet, further diagnostic testing such as ultrasound or scoping of the bladder may be necessary to determine the cause of the urinary tract issues. My own dog is on Royal Canin SO and he does great, until my kids feed him the wrong food and then he has a flare up again. So please be sure to feed her only the prescribed diet. I would recommend using the food that Lil Man's vet recommend, at least at first. Once the issue is under control, you could consider experimenting with other diets. It could be fine, but better to start with the diet that your vet is comfortable with and feels will be helpful based on their experience.

There is dry and wet of this diet. It is a prescription diet so you will have to get a prescription from your veterinarian. I hope this helps! Your kitty should be on this food for the rest of her life as the stones will return otherwise. It is expensive food, but surgery is a lot more extensive and struvite crystals are seriously painful. This diet is healthy for your kitty.

If Taffy is predisposed to urinary problems / crystals, I would recommend considering a prescription diet such as Hills C/D or Royal Canin Urinary SO. I would also consider a cranberry supplement such as Paxon, which can be found online quite easily. Increasing water intake is also key.
