Affordable wet food for my cat with UTI after prescription?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 10 lbs

My cat recently went to the vet and she has a uti and Crystal's. They put her on the royal canines prescription cat food for UTI. I wont be able to afford it and the bnb ingredients aren't the best. Is there something I can give her after the prescribed food and also I want to change my other cats food to a wet food diet but not sure what to get.

In mild cases, any wet food may be sufficient to keep the urine suitably dilute to prevent recurrence but i would recommend 6weeks of the specialist urinary wet food to stabilise and maximise recovery. If symptoms recur then i would recommend urinary food only thereafter

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I would recommend rechecking a urine sample 2 weeks after finishing the antibiotic for the UTI. That way your Vet can be sure the infection is gone as well as the crystals. If the crystals are gone then consider switching. Some crystals form int eh face of an infection and once the infection is gone so are the crystals.

    I hope this helps!
