Is my cat too thin or too fat? How to check her healthy weight.

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 6.6 lbs

Hi. Noushi is 3kg. Does she have a healthy weight for her age ? She's not heavy eater but her appetite is good & she likes to eat in small portions. There aren't good brands available in my country at the moments. She eats Josera Sensicat ,canned food Animonda Carny & royal canin digestive. If her weight's not healthy, how can I help her ?

3kg can be a normal weight for a cat, however this depends on her size.
If you can feel her ribs but just barely, this is usually a good indication of a good weight. If you can feel her ribs very easily she is likely too thin, and if you can't feel her ribs she is too fat.

Most cats will self-regulate amount to eat, so just leave food down for her.

If she is happy, playing, energetic and having good poops, then the food is probably fine.

Just make sure she is dewormed and has a product for fleas. Make sure you use a cat product, dog products can be fatal to cats.

Is my cat overweight? How to determine a healthy body condition.

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is very hard to assess that from just pictures. In one of the pictures that you can see her right side she looks ok though it really takes an examination and palpation to be able to say it accurately. You want to be able to feel the ribs easily though they should not be prominent. That is one of the things we evaluate when assessing body condition score. Your veterinarian could easily tell you with an examination. Good luck!

My 5-month-old cat is small but active. Should I worry about her weight?

Noushmc might just be a small cat! If she eats a correct portion of food for her weight and age and if she continues to grow, even if slowly, if her appetite is good, the urination and defecation is normal and she is happy and playful, I wouldn't be worried at the moment. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lucy. The side of bag offer basic feeding recommendations that try to account for the cats with the highest metabolism in that age bracket. Each food differs in calories per cup so it is difficult to make an accurate recommendation for her without this information. As far as assessing her weight, she needs only a thin covering over her ribs. You should be able to feel them through her skin. She should have a defined waist from the top and side views. If your vet says not to worry about Noushi, then I wouldn't worry. The vet would tell you if you needed to worry and have her gain weight back. She may be at her perfect weight now, and gaining excess weight she doesn't need will lead to health problems. Best of luck.
