My cat has tapeworms and a seizure. Does he need emergency vet care?

Sorry to hear about poor Blitzen. Seizures can have many different causes, but I would not be concerned about the tapeworm medication as a cause. Seizures can happen due to a body function not working properly, or from a problem within the brain. It is possible that the previous head injury could be the cause, but really difficult to prove and likely nothing that can be done for it now. There could also be a brain tumor, infection or some congenital defect causing this. The truth is that we often don't find the cause of the tumor, because it requires special imaging that is usually too expensive for most people. However, it's worth having a vet do an exam and possibly check the blood for any abnormalities. Sometimes we can find the cause and fix it relatively easily. If not, the vet could prescribe medication to prevent more seizures, so it's still worth the visit. I hope that helps and you get this under control soon.

From the picture you provided, it does look like Plug has tapeworms. He will need to see a vet for this problem, as the medication needed to treat it (praziquantel) is available by prescription only. I'd take him into a vet tomorrow. Best of luck.

It sounds like he is pretty sick. He may need more than just a deworming, such as fluids and possibly some anti nausea medication. I would really taking the worm in a baggie with you when you take Daknto the veterinarian. If he seems weak and lethargic then you may want to go to an emergency clinic tonight. They look like tapeworm segments so she should be dewormed for tapeworms. She should also be treated for fleas as animals get tapeworms from ingesting fleas. Your vet should be able to prescribe a dewormer to treat.

You should treat both cats, monday should be fine, and repeat in 4weeks again. Cleaning litter trays is important with immediate disposal of feces to prevent reinfection. Medications effective against both round and tapeworms are recommended for full cover and are available from vets and reputable pet stores

You need a medication that contains a dewormer called Praziquantal to treat this. I would speak with your vet as there are multiple options. I am sorry to hear that Toby sounds like he is having an adverse reaction to the tapeworm medicaiton. This sounds serious. I would highly recommend taking Toby in to your vet to have him treated for an adverse reaction, which includes fluids for flush out his system and and symptomatic treatment.
