Cat has rice-like things in poop, diarrhea, vomiting. Is it tapeworms?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 22 days old | 8 lbs

Hello, im in need of help. I believe my cat has tapeworms. I haven't been able to take him to the vet. He's been having diarrhea and short past of vomiting. He has also been having these rice-looking things on his anus and I found some in his poop. I do not have a picture of one on his anus but I do have one of his poop. Im very worried about him, if anyone knows anything please help. Thank you.

From the picture you provided, it does look like Plug has tapeworms. He will need to see a vet for this problem, as the medication needed to treat it (praziquantel) is available by prescription only. I'd take him into a vet tomorrow. Best of luck.

Tapeworm segments are small and white, and can look like a grain of rice or a sesame seed. You may notice them near Aegean’s bum or on his bedding. The best way to check if he has tapeworms is to take Aegean to the vet (along with a fecal sample from him) so that the vet can test for tapeworm eggs and treat appropriately. Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about King and for the pictures, they are very helpful! That looks like tapeworms to me in the picture! Tapeworms come out in segments and look like grains of rice. Frequently you can see them around the anus of the cat, in their poop, and next to them if they fall off from another the anus. You should have him seen by a vet. The vet can confirm he has tapeworms and can treat him. The vet will also treat him for fleas since fleas carry and transmit tapeworms to cats. I hope this helps!

Yes, I would advise to get Phones dewormed. Rice shaped worms are usually tape worms BUT I have seen clients describe roundworms as rice shaped as well. I would advise a broad spectrum dewormer and a fecal exam. If he does have tapeworms, then that means he also has fleas. Fleas transmit the tapeworms. You veterinarian can prescribe the best flea medications and dewormer for your situation. If the diarrhea does not resolve after treatment, then there are many other things that can cause loose stool. I hoe this helps!

It could be tapeworms. When a cat has tapeworms, you see the segments of them, which look like grains of rice. You typically don't see full worms in the poop. You need to have Mudpie seen by a vet in the morning to have this diagnosed and treated.

It sounds like Saphira may have worms! If they look like grains of rice, then they are tapeworms. Tapeworms require praziquantel to kill, which is prescription only from the vet. You will have to take her in to the vet. I would see if you can borrow money from family and friends to afford the vet, you can see if you vet accepts payment plans, you can apply for Care Credit online, or you can see if there is a low cost clinic in your area. My cat threw up a long, live worm. Is it a tapeworm? What to do?

My cat has white worms & rice-like pieces. Will Panacur work?

If you are seeing worms that look like rice, those are tapeworm segments. Panacur can kill some types of tapeworm, but the best drug for it is praziquantel. That is a prescription only drug, and a great brand that contains praziquantel is Drontal. You can try the Panacur, but you may have to go back to your vet to get Drontal. As long as you practice good hygiene (wash your hands after petting him, wash your hands after cleaning his litter box), you should be fine. I hope this helps!

The worms in the photo appear to be tapeworms or, less commonly, pinworms. these can cause impactions and diarrhea, especially in kittens. Unfortunately, I am unable to prescribe medication for Coco without having examined her. However, your veterinarian can quickly determine the exact type of parasites present with a fecal sample and prescribe the appropriate treatment. Because many parasites are transmitted by fleas, it is important for Coco to be on a monthly flea preventative. You should also be careful when cleaning out her litter box to make sure you wash your hands well with soap and water, as some of these parasites can infect humans. I hope all is well!
