My kitten has worms, is weak, shaky, and in pain. Does he need emergency care?

It sounds like Boots may have intestinal parasites. There are many different kinds, but we usually lump them into 3 groups: round/hook/whip worms look like spaghetti, tapeworms look like flat noodles or small grains of rice, and coccidia or giardia are other types that are not visibly seen. You can try an OTC dewormer that treats the specific type of worm you are seeing and make sure it is repeated in a few weeks as directed on the label, but I recommend that Boots go to a vet. She is way overdue for kitten vaccines and a rabies shot (which is required in all cats and dogs by law - even if they will never ever step foot outside). There are many nasty cat viruses that can cause illness and even death. Your vet can also test a fecal sample to determine the most appropriate treatment timeline for her individual parasite(s).

Vet clinics are still open on an emergency basis, and this is an emergency. A dropper of water isn't nearly enough to prevent dehydration in a cat that is not eating or drinking. Vomiting up worms means there are tons of worms inside, and there could even be lung worms. From the picture, there looks to be flea dirt on Prince's skin, which could mean he is anemic.

He needs to be seen by a veterinarian for a wellness exam. He may not be able to poop and may be constipated, or he had so many worms that all the dead worms are making him ill. Keep him warm, entice him to drink water, and should he deteriorate he needs to be seen at a petER tonight.

I'm sorry to hear about Nylon. If he was just recently treated and is now having a severe reaction to the treatment it is best to contact the vet that treated him and bring him back in for care immediately. They may need to place him on IV fluids or other measures to reverse any reactions and get him recovering. If your current vet is not available, seeking out an emergency vet in your area is best.

It is rare for worms to kill a cat unless they cause a full obstruction of the bowel with severe, persistent vomiting or extreme weight loss. It would be important to deworm her within the next 48hours and to schedule an emergency vet assessment if she becomes weak

Kittens are susceptible to many different infections, both viral & bacterial. A heavy parasite burden from coccidia, or roundworms can also wear a kitten down & leave it weak. Pascal is too young & small to try & fight this off on his own. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. If you can not have him seen tonight or tomorrow, pick up some Nutrical from Petco tomorrow, & try to give him small amount frequently throughout the day. This is a high calorie supplement to hopefully keep his energy up. Then please try to have him seen by your veterinarian as early as possible on Monday. I hope he does better soon. It's actually pretty serious when a cat won't eat anything as if they go long enough without eating, they will develop a fatty liver. Because Toby is still vomiting and not eating, it's time to see a vet immediately. Please take him into an ER vet now. If there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies.
