My cat's tail amputation wound won't heal after a year. What to do?

It does appear that she has a wound on her tail, either from the original injury or from something unrelated. It is difficult to tell from the picture whether or not the wound is extensive enough to need stitches, but it may need antibiotics to help prevent infection. I would recommend she be re-evaluated by her veterinarian to assess the severity of the wound, and if further treatment and/or antibiotics may be needed for it to heal. Good luck!

Poor girl. It really likely just needs some antibiotics to fully heal here. If a cut gets infected, then it will delay the healing process. I would suggest cleaning it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water for now and then get this seen by your vet b/c she likely just needs antibiotics and potentially even closure of the cut to help it heal all the way. She also is likely messing with it b/c it is itchy due to infection. You can place an e-collar on her for now to keep her from getting to the wound. You can find e-collars at your local petstore. I do agree I would have him evaluated by his regular veterinarian as soon as possible. I would limit his ability to scratch at the area, and warm compress the site 2-4 times a day. If it has become infected, it may need antibiotics, a drain placed or something further done to help it heal. Good luck!

I'm so sorry this happened to Gibson. Unfortunately, she likely needs just the last portion of her tail amputated, especially if it is broken. I do not think euthanasia is indicated and many veterinarians are capable of doing a tail amputation. I see there are 3 local vets in your area. I would recommend finding one you trust and making an appointment ASAP. She needs pain medication, appropriate antibiotics, and surgical treatment. Luckily it's not a major procedure and she likely could come home right after.

It's probably an abscess and she will need an antibiotic injection, you need to try to find a vet clinic in your area, otherwise you may try oral paediatric antibiotics, unfortunately we are not allowed by law to provide dosage information of prescription drugs over the internet.

It sounds like it's bothering Ava. There is a question if animals feel phantom pain from amputated limps or tails like humans feel phantom pain from amputated limbs. I'd have her checked out by a vet.

Hello. Tail wounds are notoriously difficult to heal. A slow healer is not unexpected however if the scab appears inflamed or infected it should be seen. I would leave the E-collar on until it is completely healed. Good luck with Archemedies.
