My cat's tail amputation wound looks exposed. Is it healing properly?

Hello. Tail wounds are notoriously difficult to heal. A slow healer is not unexpected however if the scab appears inflamed or infected it should be seen. I would leave the E-collar on until it is completely healed. Good luck with Archemedies.

Tails can be very difficult to keep wrapped or bandaged. Consider an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking and to allow healing. That wound in the image should be addressed by your veterinarian. Ideally, the hair around it should be clipped to prevent contamination. The wound itself should be gently cleaned. Sutures may be indicated if it is a fresh wound or deep wound. Antibiotics and pain management may also be indicated.

It actually looks like Lulu’s wound is healing very nicely. The redness will continue to resolve slowly over the next few days. I would recommend continuing the ointment your vet prescribed until the area is completely cleared and appears pink, instead of red. Another scab may form and this is fine. Just continue to keep the area clean, dry and medicated. It looks as if it will be completely healed in about another week. I hope this helps. Without seeing Sweetie's wound in person, I can't legally say if it's safe to use this pet wound liquid sealer. If the wound isn't long or deep, then it would be fine to let it breathe. Definitely put a cone on Sweetie to keep her from licking at it, and monitor it for signs of infection which include redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. Should you see any of those signs, I would take her into the vet for antibiotics. If the wound is long and/or deep, then my recommendation is to take her into a vet now for stitches.

I do agree I would have him evaluated by his regular veterinarian as soon as possible. I would limit his ability to scratch at the area, and warm compress the site 2-4 times a day. If it has become infected, it may need antibiotics, a drain placed or something further done to help it heal. Good luck!

Hi, it looks like Gelato has an infected wound. If you take a close look to the picture you can see there is a yellow tinge to it. It is not going to heal while infected. To start with, you could clean the area with some salty water putting one spoon of salt in a mug of hot water and leaving it to cool down. Once the salty water is luke warm, you can use it on the wound with some cotton wool. It might be that the yellow scab comes off and it leaves an open gap that it oozing some discharge. I also recommend to wear gloves to clean the wound. If possible at all, nest to have it checked over so your vet can clean it for you, and give antibiotics. Hope this helps !

This looks like is may be a bite wound abscess that ruptured. Ideally, it should be addressed by your veterinarian. Surgery may be indicated to clean and flush the wound. Antibiotics and pain medication may also be indicated. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking until he sees the doctor. You may need to confine him indoors until he is healed.
