My cat's stomach swelled weeks after a fall. Is it internal bleeding?

The swelling could be a hernia with abdominal contents pushing out, a swelling of fluid such as a seroma or an infection under the skin. The veterinarian will examine him and may take x-rays of his belly. A small needle may also be used to collect a sample of cells from the swelling to evaluate under the microscope. Mabel is such a cute kitty!! A small amount of bruising around the incision can be normal, but swelling can indicate a possible breakdown in the stitches holding the muscle together and should be checked out sooner rather than later, especially if Mabel seems painful. If the sutures Di breakdown it is possible for intestines to then become trapped beneath the skin and this can be very serious. I would recommend placing an ecollar on Mabel and confining her to a kennel or large box until you are able to have her seen. Excessive activity following surgery is not recommended and can exacerbate any complications that may develop. I hope Mabel feels better soon!

There could be a couple of reasons why Pharbie has a swollen tummy and is bleeding when he poops. It could be he's gotten into something rotten or toxic, may have a foreign body, could have GI ulcers, could have an anal sac abscess or rupture, or could have trauma to his GI tract. However, in reality, it requires a good amount of force which from your description it does not seem to be the case. I recommend you keep a close eye on Jax for any signs of bleeding or just any traumatic injury from this event. Signs you would watch for include severe weakness, lethargy, pale gums and/or collapse. If observed, having examined right away. If he is fine after the next 24-48 hours, in all likelihood he will be just fine. Good luck with your boy!

This lump on Barney could be a benign growth, a cyst, or even a malignant growth. He is a senior cat, so there is a chance it could be cancerous. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. The problem with dog and cat fights or altercations is that it is hard to know the extent of the internal injuries even if there is no external injuries. It is really important to have him checked by a veterinarian to determine for example if he has any evidence of internal injuries such as bleeding into the abdomen, a broken rib or something of that nature. He is probably avoiding contact because he is painful. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and evaluation. They may proceed with radiographs and blood work for example depending on his physical examination. At the very least they can start him on pain control medications. Good luck!

Based on its location, this could also be a mammary gland tumor which in most cases are malignant. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis.
