Why is my cat suddenly weak, sleeping more, and can't walk?

Poor Simba sounds very weak and it does sound like she is ill and in pain. She could have been injured, she could be suffering from a systemic illness, or she could have an infection. Her symptoms are very general, so it's hard for me to narrow down more what could be going on with her without seeing her in person. Given her age and the fact that she is has been like this all night and day, taking her into the vet now would be the best option. The vet can diagnose what is causing her to behavior like this, and can treat accordingly.

Simba could have blood pressure or blood sugar issue and I think giving him corn syrup was a good start. That said, Simba could be suffering from balance issues. One condition that could explain what is going on is called vestibular syndrome. You veterinarian could confirm it by doing a full physical exam or discovery what else could be going on. I hope Simba feels better.

Hair loss can have many causes in cats- skin infection such as a bacterial infection, allergy such as to food or a flea allergy (especially if Simba is not on any flea preventative) or fungal infection like ringworm can all be causes. Sometimes anxiety can cause cats to lick off their fur but this is typically a diagnosis that is made after all other health conditions are ruled out first. The weight loss could be due to due to simply eating less (this would be a good thing if Simba was previously overweight). Of course, weight loss can also be caused by many different underlying health condition such as certain infections, hyperthyroidism, liver, kidney disease, certain cancers and other endocrine disease. I would recommend Simba see his veterinarian soon for an evaluation. Your veterinary may take a skin scraping and hair sample from the area of hair loss and may recommend running blood work or other diagnostics as necessary. I hope this helps!

This is a common cause of the symptoms you have described. Search him over carefully for any swelling beneath the skin. A lot of times a bite wound will heal over trapping the infection underneath. This allows an abscess to develop under the skin. It can be painful and cause a fever in a cat. If this does not appear to be the case, he could have a muscular injury causing pain or an infection such as a cold. He will likely need to see his veterinarian to determine the cause of his lethargy. Keep him indoors and encourage him to eat and drink. I hope this information helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am very concerned by the pictures of Dior. I recommend that you take him to a Veterinarian ASAP. The missing hair under his chin is minor compared to how lethargic he appears and how he is acting. Possible causes: low blood sugar, Feline Infectious Peritonitis, toxin, severe dehydration or anemia. He is very sick! I wish you the best of luck

Many things could be going on such as pain, intestinal worms, fever from many sources - infection, inflammation, etc. Kittens commonly develop upper respiratory infections due to viruses but can then develop secondary bacterial infections. It's best to take him to your veterinarian right away so they can perform a physical exam including his vitals to see if he has a fever. Once they perform that, they can advise fecal tests, blood tests, or x-rays to help them determine what is causing him problems. I hope Jack gets well soon.

If he does, even if you can't find one right now I would be concerned that he suffered a bite of some kind, as cats can develop abscesses fairly easily when they suffer a trauma. I would be concerned by his behavior, as it does sound like there may be an underlying issue going on, such as an infection, GI upset, or an underlying medical issue (such as kidney disease or diabetes). If he doesn't perk up, start eating and getting some energy back, I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his change in behavior, have any necessary testing done (xrays, bloodwork) and start any treatment he may need to resolve it.
