My 13-year-old cat struggles to jump. Should I take him to the vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 13 years old | 8 lbs

My cat Charlie is 13 years old. And he is having trouble jumping up on to my bed. And my bed is only 3 inches tall. So I am wondering if I should take him to the vet

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend taking Charlie to the vet. He is getting older, but isn't very old when some cats live into their 20s. There are some diseases that can cause weakness or loss of muscle, or her may have some arthritis making jumping difficult. The vet may recommend bloodwork to assess his overall health, possibly x-rays and may be able to prescribe medication to help Charlie get back to normal activity. DO NOT give any human or over the counter medications to cats, as many can cause a fatal toxicity. I hope Charlie is back to normal soon.
