My quiet cat is suddenly meowing constantly. Should I be worried?

IT is possible Norman is trying to communicate with you he is not feeling well. I would recommend continue to monitor his behavior. If he is eating,drinking and using his litter box well I would just keep a close eye on him. However if he stops eating, has vomiting/diarrhea or continues to vocalized I would take him to a vet for an exam. Sometimes a vet can find an issue on a exam that we cannot detect at home.

A cat in heat can certainly cause a male to be more restless and vocal. For his best long term health I would recommend having Kovu neutered, but being vocal is not necessarily a sign of illness. If he is eating, drinking, urinating and defecating normally, then "talking" may just be his personality.

hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Charlie! There are a lot of things that can change metabolically as cats age. One thing that can cause increased night time vocalization in cats is an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). I think due to Charlie sleeping more and his other changes in behavior having him checked by your Vet and getting senior blood work done would be a good idea. Sometimes cats vocalize more if they lose their hearing. I would also suggest getting him dewormed due to his hunting. I hope this helps and good luck!

Certainly personalities can change as cats get older, but i would recommend making sure there isn't a medical explanation for her behavior. We see conditions like hyperthyroidism (a high thyroid level) which can cause increased activity as one of its first signs. If her exam and bloodwork is all normal, it might just be a behavioral change as Princess gets older and is nothing to worry about. I hope that was helpful. Oh my, Moxie is so handsome! Some cats are simply quieter than others, and it could simply be in his nature not to meow. Just like humans, cats have different personalities, and he could be more of an introvert who doesn't have much to say. If he has always been this way, then it's not something to worry about at all. He could be painful (arthritis, injury), scared, have painful urination or constipation and any metabolic condition (kidney or liver problems, hyperthyroidism, diabetes).
