Why does my solitary cat suddenly want cuddles in the bathroom?

I'm smiling at I answer your question because my cat likes to do the same thing! Tiger wants to know what you are up to, and wants to follow you around. Cats do not like being left out of things, so if you are going into another room, he wants to come as well! It's not uncommon for cat owners, and between my young son and my cat, I never get a moment to myself!

And sometimes we do not even know we are doing anything wrong. I would keep him out of your room. If that is the territory he is claiming control over, prevent access. I would put a feliway diffuser in your room and right outside your room. I would limit the tight snuggling as most cats do not like that despite appearing to. I would only pet him when he comes to you. Only pet around his face and neck and as soon as he starts to flick his tail or turn his ears, stop. Give him treats during these brief petting sessions. After a few weeks to a month of non aggressive snuggling and petting if there are no aggressive tendencies open your room back up to him. This is extremely concerning since cat bites are very serious. You can end up in the hospital for multiple days because of them. I would make sure you have a place for him to hide in, climb on and look out the window. I would also make sure you really wear him out. Playing with him with toys only (not your hands) and seeing if that helps. You can also talk to your veterinarian about trying behavior medication. Well, it's highly unusually that cats will enjoy a bath. At 4 years old, he's now social mature and would be more comfortable telling you to go away if you're doing something offensive. It's possible he's never really love the bathes but is just now letting you know (like a child in their 20s is going to interact differently with their parents than a 5 year old). The other possibly is that he has pain somewhere that is causing him to suddenly dislike the baths. It can be tricky to find pain in cats, even in the vet clinic, because they are just generally grumpy to be there and don't always get MORE grumpy if we find the spot that hurts. Still, starting with a vet visit is probably the best idea. If his exam is normal, I'd recommend stopping bathing him, he doesn't need it and can clean himself and see if your normal bond returns. He may like being brushed instead, or just sitting next to you. In terms of breed, I would call him a domestic short hair (DSH for short). :) I hope that helps! This is pretty normal cat behavior. They ask for attention and then get overstimulated. With an intact male cat it could also be hormonally related. I suggest you have him neutered and likely the behavior will stop.
