Why is my cat suddenly acting strange with spasms and bladder issues?

This may be an isolated episode which is why I think it would be ok to monitor for now if Loki is otherwise doing well. However, if he is not doing in well in any way or this continues, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Sometimes spasms are caused by electrolyte imbalances or pain, among other possibilities. Good luck and have a great day!

Hi, Sorry to hear about Jack, the episodes you describing with hypersalivation (increased salivation), shaking and urinating on himself which are happening more during the night can be seizures. I would strongly recommend to have him checked by a vet sooner than later as a frequency of few episodes in a few weeks is high and needs to be managed asap. It is always very helpful in diagnosis to have a video of the episode to show the vet so if you can do that in case another episode occurs before the vet appointment. Hope he will feel better soon.

You should take Cheshire to your local vets for full clinical examination and a blood test to check his blood sugar level, red cell count, kidney and liver function. If the blood results come back normal and he keeps having the episodes, he may need further investigation, like MRI scan of the brain. Alternatively, your vet may recommend treatment with anti-epileptic medication asa trial.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The loss of balance can be caused by ear infections, tumors, or toxin ingestion. In very rare occasions, antibiotics can cause neurologic damage and this may be an indication of this. These episodes may also be seizures. I recommend having your cat examined by a veterinarian who can perform a neurological exam to see what is causing these episodes. You should try to take photos or a video when this happens to help your vet make a diagnosis. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Hello. This odd behavior does warrant a visit yo your veterinarian, especially if it happens again. This may be nothing, perhaps a sound or something she sensed outside that caused her to freeze, but we really can not rule anything else out, including some underlying condition with her heart or even a small seizure. Just watch her & if she remains normal, just mention this episode to your veterinarian at your next scheduled visit. If it does happen again, please see your vet. It is hard to say exactly without seeing a video of the spells that are concerning; however, it seems that seizures are a possibility here. I would highly recommend recording one of these episodes on your phone and showing them to your veterinarian for verification of what exactly these are. If they are seizures, then this is considered an uncontrolled condition if they are happening more than once every 30 days, and Charlie would need to start taking anti-seizure medication to help stabilize his condition and help prevent any permanent brain damage. Hello and thank you very much for your inquiry. Right off the bat, I began to think of your cat as having mild seizure activity where he loses consciousness and thus control of his bowels. There are also some diseases that cats can get which causes irregular heartbeats or irregular blood flow to the rest of the body which temporarily knocks them unconscious and then they lose control of their bowels also. You need to take your cat to a veterinarian to have a complete cardiac and neurologic work up performed. Some of the test that the vet may want to run is a full CBC chemistry panel, chest x-ray’s, ECG, etc. Thanks a lot for your question. I hope I’ve helped you today.
