My cat stopped drinking water and meows constantly. What's happening?

I would recommend you consider going to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They can then check for these and other possibilities so that hopefully therapy can be used accordingly. Best of luck!

This is in fact a concerning sign in cats as inappetence can be observed with conditions such as pancreatitis, kidney disease (most likely chronic in nature), dietary indiscretion and diabetes, just to mention a few possibilities. Cats can develop serious illness when they stop eating. This is known as hepatic lipidosis which is directly related to anorexia. I recommend that if Nutmeg is not eating by tomorrow morning, to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. General labwork and thoracic/abdominal imaging may be recommended for work-up. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Not drinking water is concerning because cats can get dehydrated very quickly if not drinking. Possibilities at this point include pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, among many other possibilities. Eating the mole is unlikely to be playing a factor though it could be. I highly recommend that you have Kneads evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Since you cat’s behavior has changed so abruptly I would recommend taking him in to the vet to be checked out. He may have an underlying infection or virus causing his symptoms or may have intestinal parasites, which isnfaily common in young kittens. Rocky's increased vocalizations could be related to a medical condition or it could be pyschological. Some cats will become more vocal following the loss of a household companion. However, his increased thirst is most likely a symptom of an underlying medical condition such as hyperthyrodism, diabetes, Cushing's disease, kidney or liver failure. Therefore, I recommend that you take Rocky to his local veterinarian for an examination and senior blood work. With treatment, many of the above medical conditions can be managed with dietary and lifestyle changes, at least for a while.

Hi there and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Oh, I am sorry to hear about Oreo- sounds like he is not feeling well at all. It is hard to say exactly what is going on with Oreo without examining him first. If he hasn't moved from one location in a few days, this is very concerning and tells me Oreo may be very ill. There can be many causes for Oreo's symptoms. Drinking a lot of water lately is a sign of diabetes mellitus or kidney disease. If he has only urinated a couple times in the last 3 days, he could have a urinary plug or blockage. In any case, Oreo should be taken to his nearest emergency veterinary clinic ASAP to determine the cause of his illness so he can get better soon. There is really nothing you can at home to help- taking him to a veterinarian is the best thing for him. I hope this helps and best of luck to you and Oreo. I hope he fells better soon.
