My cat's stomach sore is leaking clear liquid. Should I worry?

Congrats on your new cat! I would not continue to clean the area with peroxide as it actually damages tissues and interferes with wound healing. You can clean the sore with warm water and antiseptic soap. Put an Ecollar on Maggie to keep her from irritating it, and I will put a link below on how to make one at home. Keep an eye on the sore, and if it becomes red, swollen, warm to the touch, or you see pus, then I would be concerned because it's infected. Based on the photos you have attached and the signs that you are describing I would be concerned that this lesion is either a cyst, abscess, or a mass. Abscesses tend to ooze white/colored and odorous discharge, so based on your description and the appearance I think that it is less likely that this is an abscess. Cysts within the hair follicles can occur and often lead to this kind of lesion, they are more likely to drain clear fluid. If your cat is otherwise acting ok and she has been evaluated by a veterinarian I would recommend continuing to monitor the area. Try to prevent her from licking at the area as this will predispose her to development of an infection. If the area does not heal or develops any kind of colored/odorous discharge I would recommend having her rechecked by your veterinarian. At that time they may consider skin testing of the area to help better characterize what is going on. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hi, and thanks for your question. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching (if any). It could be dis charge from his anal glands. Normally, the glands are emptied during the act of defecation. Sometimes though, the glands become impacted then infected. An abscess will form then eventually rupture and drain. If there is no redness, swelling or discharge around the anus, look for swelling elsewhere. If he is an outdoor cat, a bite wound abscess is a possibility. They can be difficult to spot without a close exam and maybe shaving a swollen area. Ideally, he should be physically examined by your veterinarian. Especially if he is lethargic, feverish or not eating.

This looks like an ulcerated wound but I cannot tell how deep it is for those pictures. It could also be a site of a fungal infection as well. Cats that are nursing kittens should have noticeable mammary development and milk production so if that is not present you will need to bottle feed the kitten depending on its age. For the wound it should be kept clean and dry and Skunky should be prevented from licking it by wearing an ecollar. The hair around the site can further irritate it as well so usually wound care is needed. A veterinarian near to you can examine the site, determined if it needs to be closed or heal in its own and if any medications are needed. Cats are very sensitive to medications so do not give any human medications to her.

This is a nasty wound. I would put Cheeru in the sink or tub and gently flush this wound with cool water until it is clean and all the discharge is removed. Then keep her inside in a small clean room with fresh bedding, food, water and litter. It looks like you may have put iodine solution on it as a disinfectant in the picture, which is fine. She will lick and clean this area so I don't like to apply ointment on it. You can take some hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and clean the area daily if needed. Draining watery, bloody fluid from the area is normal. Give her wet food with added water to make sure she doesn't become dehydrated. Luckily cats usually heal well when the wound is open and draining like this one. Expect this to take a few weeks to heal. I am very sorry that Kitty has his sore near her lip. Thank you for proving pictures, it is difficult to know precisely what caused this lesion it may have been a cat scratch, a traumatic puncture from for example a fence, or possible a primary skin like feline acne, or allergic disease. At this stage it appears to be slightly crusted and inflamed and I would suggest a trip to the veterinarian. The vet will most likely clean the wound and debris any necrotic material. The vet may also send home pain relief, anti inflammatory medications and / or antibiotics. The vet will also be able examine the area and reach a diagnosis.
