My cat's spay site has dry pus and stitches. Should I take her to vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 4.1 lbs

Hello! My cat Hazel, was spayed saturday 02/16/19 and I just want to know if I need to take her to the vet. Her spay site has some dry like pus around it and you can see the main stitch on the outside of her body. I got her spayed at the local shelter for a cheaper cost because of money issues. I just want to make sure she is not infected.

It is normal to see sutures on the outside of the skin, it's the skin suture layer. As for the pus, that can be a sign of infection so to be safe, I'd take Hazel into the vet in the morning to get it checked out. Best of luck.
