My spayed cat's incision is messy with white discharge. Is it normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hi doctor, my cat is female and she was spayed last Sunday, I put a soft E-collar on her so I am not sure if she can lick the wound but today I saw her try some strenuous exercise and then I noticed some white discharge from the post-op wound and the surgical line seems to be getting a little messy, is there anything I need to do? Thank you so much!

It looks like the wound is completely closed even though the sutures are falling apart, for now i only recommend monitoring it, it doesn't look bad at all, give it a few more days, if it seems to be getting worse take her to your vet to get it treated.
