My cat has soft lumps on her belly near nipples. Are they normal?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 7 months and 8 days old

My cat has 2 soft inner "balls" in her lower abdomen. They surround her lower nipples. They are soft to the touch. Wen shes walking she looks like she has extra skin down there. Can it be a tumor or something that can put her health at risk?

Those are normal fat pads. Most adult cats have these particularly cats who are less active and slightly overweight. They do feel like masses but they are normal and nothing to be overly concerned about. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Ava.

From the photo this looks like a normal nipple. Male cats have nipples like females but they are small like in the photo. Usually four or so on each side. From the picture you provided the small lump looks actually like a nipple.
Try to see if you find the others and compare them.

It is slightly difficult to orient myself in the picture, but from what I can see and the location you are describing I believe it is a nipple. e fact is, most mammals have nipples. Birth makes and females mammals have nipples. Like female dogs, male dogs have nipples, which extend in two rows from the chest into the groin area. Unlike female dogs, they do not possess a reproductive function, so they don't generally secrete — and if they do, you should consult a vet, just to make sure everything's okay.

It is possible that there is just a fat pad under the nipples in that region, and that is why the skin is hanging down low. I recommend monitoring it for now, and having your vet take a look the next time you are in. If it becomes uncomfortable, has discharge, becomes swollen, red, hot, or cold, then have it seen right away. It is likely just a fat pad that sits in that region. Best of luck with Shay.

Many cats will develop a fat pad in their abdominal area, but Bean is a bit young for this. If the area is not hard, swollen or painful, then I would not be too concerned. If the nipples are more pronounced, and the area around them is enlarged, and she’s acting strangely then she’s probably coming into heat. You’ll know by her overly friendly or different behavior. My neutered male cat has firm spots on his belly. Is it normal?

The area that you have circled in the photo is an area that we can feel mammary tissue (which males also have), fat or even lymph nodes. The most common thing we feel is fat which accumulates in the pouches on either side (which is likely what you are feeling in your female). Neutering or spaying a cat can decrease their metabolism and lead to weight gain, so it is common to find that they have more fat in that region after they are neutered or spayed. However, fat is normally quite soft and should not feel really firm, so I would recommend having your vet evaluate the area and make sure that it is normal. And presuming that it is, you can put Prince on a diet now, so he doesn't continue gaining weight! (Sorry Prince!) I hope that was helpful! Why is my cat's hard, hanging belly growing? Is it a fat pad?

It is common for larger/overweight cats to develop a large fat pad in this area; this can occasionally become damaged/infected and painful. I recommend you ask your vet tech to check the area and advise if any further tests or biopsy s required. If he is overweight for his size, they can also advise on wiehgt management options to prevent further complications such as joint disease and diabetes

Is a hanging belly normal for my Maine Coon who isn't overweight?

Hi there, Typically this is just their fat pad. Most cats have a fat pad but some have one that is more noticeable than others. I would still have your vet her if she's acting lethargic and to make sure what you're seeing isn't something else. I hope that helps and thanks for using Pet Coach!
