My cat has a smooth, furless spot on her face. What should I do?

This is often a bite wound abscess either starting or in the healing phase. Continue to monitor this area and if it swells up with fluid, it's an abscess and will need to be drained by your veterinarian. Other options are a skin infection like ringworm or mange, or an old healing scab from some kind of wound. Some cats have ear mites and they are so itchy that they scratch their face raw underneath the ear they are trying to reach.

She is a cutie! This could be from an insect/spider bite that has cause a local infection/abscess which is why is has started to swell. This could potentially be a cancerous mass that has caused an inflammatory reaction as well. Since it has recently become swollen, I would strongly recommend for your vet to take a look at it. Your vet will be able to aspirate the mass or swelling if needed. They can even take X-rays if needed if they are concerned about sinus or honey involvement. They will also be able to start her on some antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory if needed. I hope this helps!

There are a few things this could be including, primary dermatological problem, trauma (especially if you have another cat in the house that could have swatted Hugo and scratched his face), or potentially tooth related. I would recommend having the area evaluated by a veterinarian for diagnostics like skin scrape for skin problems, clip/clean if trauma, and an oral exam/oral x-rays to identify a tooth related problem. Another option would be to continue to monitor the area. Any changes such as spreading hair loss, swelling, drainage, or if Hugo becomes bothered by the lesion he definitely needs to be seen by a veterinarian. It's small, and I don't see any sign of infection, so I don't recommend a vet visit at this point in time. I would leave it be, and see if it heals. Hair loss is that area could be a few things. If you are using a topical flea medication and applying it there, that could be the cause. Cats can also get skin mites, allergies or ringworm (which humans can get), or an injury. Could the dried blood be from her scratching with her hind paw? From the photos, I don't appreciate any hair loss around the ears. Minor wounds can often heal on their own. Monitor the lesion closely, if it doesn't begin healing within a week or if it starts looking worse, have her examined by the veterinarian. Also make sure she is not scratching at the area. It looks like Orien has a small abrasion or insect bite that may be irritated. I would prevent her from scratching and it should heal on its own. If she has multiple sores or areas of hair loss the. I recommend a vet visit to make sure it’s not parasites or fungal infection (ringworm).
