Why does my 8-year-old cat have a small, raised lump on his side?

The pink raised mass in the picture appears to be a wart. I would not be concerned about this unless it grows or changes in color. The lump you feel could range from a cyst to a cancerous growth. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for an aspirate. This is where they can take cells from the mass and look at it with microscope

Hello there and thank you for your post! Unfortunately, without pictures or seeing this mask for myself in person it is difficult to say what it could be. Seeing that Rascal is 10 years old he is considered geriatric. At geriatric ages, we can typically find skin masses that are many times benign and not cancerous. However, there is a chance that it could be a cancerous tumor but without further testing it is very difficult to say. I would recommend having a veterinarian exam in the slump to get a better idea of what it could be. The vet can insert a small needle into the lump and look at the cells under a microscope to help determine what the lump could be. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. This is likely a mass and it should be examined by a veterinarian. Since it is apparently growing and bleeding because the skin is overstretching, it should also be removed surgically, whether it is benign or malignant. this should happen very soon, as the wound will be prone to bacterial infection. This is not heartworm. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian. She is a beautiful cat!

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. There are several causes for a mass-like effect on a cat's side. there is the possibility of an infection/abscess from a wound. There could also be a tumor or a growth at the site. I would recommend Hallow be evaluated by her regular veterinarian to determine what it is and start on any treatment if warranted.

It is hard to say what it is without feeling it but it may be an adenoma which is a non cancerous wart type skin growth or it may be an infection in a hair follicle. Keep it clean and try to see if he scratches it all. If it seems to get larger or bother him then I would get him checked by a vet
