What's this small black bump on my cat's gums? Is it cancer?

This looks like some type of mass that is growing on the gingival/skin margin. Cats can be prone to different skin tumours some cancerous and some benign, I would urge you to get this tested or removed by your vet in case it is cancerous. In the worst case scenario surgery is often curative for the majority of skin cancers thankfully

Hello. I would just watch this for now. I have removed several of these off of older cats, & they are most often benign & not dangerous. Removal is always curative. If it looks like it is enlarging, or it is interfering with his ability to eat or chew, definitely consider having it removed. Otherwise, just monitor for now. Hi. Butterscotch is a cutie. It is hard to say what lumps are without a full exam and a sample of the cells. In these photos, Ican't tell you what they are. I would recommend that you schedule an appointment with your veterinarian. It could be something completely benign. Could be infection, immune response, insect bite, and cancer is a possibility as well. Good luck.

The most common causes of oral tumors in cats are melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma and fibrosarcoma. A black tumor would be more suspicious of melanoma. In either of these cases, you want to get it removed and identified soon, because they are all cancerous. However, there are many benign (non- cancerous) causes of nodules in the mouth, so don't worry too much yet. A veterinarian may see it and not be as concerned based on the appearance. This could actually be normal pigmentation on Phoenix's gums. This can be seen in orange cats, and it's known as lentigo. To be safe, I'd have him checked out by a vet since I can't say for certain without seeing him in person, but if it is lentigo, it's nothing to worry about. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, in this area I would be concerned that this is some type of cancerous growth.I would recommend an immediate vet visit - your vet can take a sample of the lump and tell you what it is. Based on that diagnosis a treatment plan can be developed.
