Why does my cat always sleep under blankets or in dark spots?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 9 months old

Im curious, during the day my cat likes to sleep under a blanket or something that will make it dark. Is that normal ? He has been doing that for the past year now, my one other cat likes to sometimes but she doesn't do it all the time like he does. When I'm home he likes to be by me and be under the blanket with me, if I'm not under a blanket he will try and get into my hoodie. Im just very curious if this is normal for some cats.

Hi there. Yes, there are many cats who prefer to sleep under things like blankets or articles of clothing. They feel safe and secure this way, and may also be warmer as most cats get cold easily. :)

Hi there! Ziggy is probably just going somewhere he feels safe. Under your couch is a place that is probably mostly dark and somewhat confined. This is why many people crate train their puppies-it gives them a place to feel safe and secure! Hope this helps you, and congrats on your new puppy!

Many cats like to hide in the closet, usually to sleep there, as long as she is otherwise eating normally and behaving normally it is not considered to be a problem. if this is new and she is hiding in the closet all day then she is probably hiding a health condition and you should take her to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked.

It may just be that Mirz is more comfortable there if she's too hot/cold, however if you are seeing any other changes in addition to the change in sleeping spot such as weight changes, hair loss, changes in appetite, stool, activity, etc, it is always best to schedule a vet visit to rule out any more serious issues such as underlying illness or metabolic disease.

My shy adopted cat hides under bed. Should I block his hiding spot?

Since it is his safe zone, I would not block it off all the time but it is very reasonable to block it off for an hour or so and get him acclimated to new areas and realize they are just as safe. Just remember to take it slow and give lots of treats or rewards when he stays out and be socialize.
