Why is my cat's spreading skin infection not healing? Has fever.

I would talk to your vet about doing a biopsy or a culture and sensitivity. The biopsy may be able to tell a different skin condition (underlying mange, fungal infection, etc) that may require different medications than just antibiotics and steroids. A culture and sensitivity may reveal a resistant bacteria that isn't responding to the current antibiotics. I hope this helps.

I'm not sure how you've been monitoring Golam's temperature, as usually a rectal thermometer is the only accurate way, but a fever lasting a week is concerning in cats, just as it would be for a person. The skin lesions could be due to the scratches, or could be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, or a combination of the above, just as they can be in humans. I recommend making an appointment to have Golam seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the lesions you’ve noticed and the enlargement of the lymph nodes to make sure they are treated appropriately. The vet can also help you determine if what you are feeling are lymph nodes or salivary glands, as they are in the same general area. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the skin under the microscope to determine if there is an infection and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment. In the meantime, you can bathe Golam in hypoallergenic shampoo for cats to clean the area, but this will likely not resolve the lesions. I hope that helps!

It looks like this may not be a simple infection. You should talk to your vet about a possible immune-mediated disease or a biopsy for a resistant infection or fungal infection. The vet may need to check his blood work and test for FIV/FeLV to see if there are any abnormalities which could affect healing.

You need to take him to a bet asap!! His skin is terrible! It looks like it is infected with yeast, bacteria or mange mites, but i suspect it is a combo. It neefs treated with an antiparasite, antibiotics, medicated shampoo and antinflammatories. Do not attempt to treat at home, it is way beyond that.

This is most often associated with either a bacterial or fungal infection which is confirmed with a culture. A biopsy can be considered if the paw is not getting better on medications. This would confirm if there is a more aggressive process on going such as cancer. If the area is not improving within a few days, then have Tiger re-evaluated and consider further diagnostics. Your cat could have allergies and these are commonly seen in cats that are vomiting or have skin issues like this. He may need to be on allergy medication like steroids, or benefit from a strict prescription food allergy diet trial with a food like Royal Canin hypoallergic or Hills z/d.

This lesion is very severe and requires antibiotics and proper wound care. The area surrounding the area affected must be clipped and disinfected appropriately and antibiotics (topical or systemic) are required.
