Why is my cat sick after being outside? Litter box, walking, seizures.

Do flea control, if you have not done so yet. Even indoor cats can catch a flea brought in from the ourside. If there is no flea problem then your kitty may be suffering fom Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome, which is a type of seizure disorder. I suggest you take her to your vet ASAP for an exam. There are mesications available to reduce these attacks, such as anti-anxiety medications. However, your vet needs to rule out other diseases that could cause sudden pain.

Youch! Those are some nasty looking wounds your kitty has created. While I am uncertain of the drug your veterinarian prescribed, no drug is 100%. It is still possible that a flea issue could be the cause of Private's problems. I would invest in a flea comb from your local pet store and comb him down, taking a look for any live or dead fleas, or flea dirt. If you see any, it may be time to start thinking about remedicating. In terms of allergies, in theory a cat could be allergic to anything at all, cat nip included. If those are areas where you feel Private has been rubbing himself on the cat nip, it's certainly possible that it is the cause of the derm issues you are seeing. In regards to treatment, it looks they are scabbing up pretty well. If you chose to use antibiotics at this point, it would most likely be to prevent any secondary infection. What you really need to do is prevent the itching. You may need to invest in an e-collar from your vet or a pet store to accomplish this. Also, medication to prevent the itchiness will be equally as important. Typically, antihistamines and steroids are the drugs of choice to control this sort of thing in kitties. You will need to see your vet to figure out which is the best one in this case. As for sleeping in the litter box, this could be an indicator that he simply isn't feeling 100%. Cats tend to do oddball things when they aren't themselves. Hope this helps!

Sometime urinary tract issues or urinary blockages in males can cause discomfort and excessive licking near his private area. Seizure activity due to a metabolic condition or underlying neurological disorder could be another possibility. Sometimes animals that have focal or partial seizures can elicit sudden odd behaviors like the behaviors Caspian is experiencing. I would recommend Caspian see his veterinarian very soon for the exam and evaluation. Your veterinarian will do a physical exam and may recommend taking blood work and urine to help determine a cause so he can receive the most appropriate treatment. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Squeak. If he goes outside daily, there is a chance that he has sustained fight wounds from an altercation with another cat. This is a common cause of the symptoms you have described. Search him over carefully for any swelling beneath the skin. A lot of times a bite wound will heal over trapping the infection underneath. This allows an abscess to develop under the skin. It can be painful and cause a fever in a cat. If this does not appear to be the case, he could have a muscular injury causing pain or an infection such as a cold. He will likely need to see his veterinarian to determine the cause of his lethargy. Keep him indoors and encourage him to eat and drink. I hope this information helps!

I'm so sorry that Thomas isn't doing well. I can't tell what's going on from your description, but generally when the cause of an illness is not obvious from a physical exam, we do have to keep running tests until we find a cause OR try possible treatments until something works. When we're treating blindly, we run the risk of making something worse. Since it's getting worse, I think another vet visit is in order and you can work out a treatment plan that fits within your budget. Wishing you and Thomas the best of luck.

Hi, Sorry to hear about Jack, the episodes you describing with hypersalivation (increased salivation), shaking and urinating on himself which are happening more during the night can be seizures. I would strongly recommend to have him checked by a vet sooner than later as a frequency of few episodes in a few weeks is high and needs to be managed asap. It is always very helpful in diagnosis to have a video of the episode to show the vet so if you can do that in case another episode occurs before the vet appointment. Hope he will feel better soon.

You will need to take your kitty to a veterinarian for a skin exam. Summer could be suffering from an allergy, mites, fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection. Each of these requires a different treatment, so it is important to find out what is causing the itch. Your vet will do a thorough exam and maybe a a skin scrape. He will then discuss the options with you and then prescribe medications, possibly give an injection to stop the itching.
