Why does my male cat have a shaved belly and tattoo after neuter?

Neutering will not cause baldness. Pets can have a bald belly for many reasons. Typically a cat neuter only involves incisions in the scrotum. However if one testicle wasn't completely descended another incision may have been needed. Also- it's hard to be sure but that could be an area of razor/clipper irritation from the preparation for surgery and not a second incision. If there is any doubt I recommend contacting the veterinarian who did your cat's neuter to see if it was a standard neuter or required additional incisions.

This looks like a shaved area of fur where the IV would have been placed for the procedure. It's difficult to tell the position from the photo, but if this spot is near the crook of the elbow, then that is definitely what it is. Otherwise, the skin looks healthy and the area of hair loss is too neat to be due to any bad causes. I think you are fine to wait and see if it starts growing hair and doesn't have any signs of infection (flakey skin, redness, scabs, pus). If all looks OK, then the area should be back to normal is about 3-5 weeks. I hope that helps and all is well with Quavo..

The area that you have circled in the photo is an area that we can feel mammary tissue (which males also have), fat or even lymph nodes. The most common thing we feel is fat which accumulates in the pouches on either side (which is likely what you are feeling in your female). Neutering or spaying a cat can decrease their metabolism and lead to weight gain, so it is common to find that they have more fat in that region after they are neutered or spayed. However, fat is normally quite soft and should not feel really firm, so I would recommend having your vet evaluate the area and make sure that it is normal. And presuming that it is, you can put Prince on a diet now, so he doesn't continue gaining weight! (Sorry Prince!) I hope that was helpful! Hello. At this time, we generally do not recommend keeping a male cat intact for an extended amount of time, because if he starts spraying at puberty, it is very difficult to break this habit. If your veterinarian is not detecting a rent in the abdominal wall, then see how he develops over the next couple of months & consider neutering him around 5-6 months of age. What you describe certainly is not normal after a minor surgery such as a neuter. However, I am suspicious that he may have a skin infection, ringworm, or even possibly mites. Sometimes if they have a minor infection or mites then the stress of surgery can cause it to get worse.
