Why is my cat having seizures, vomiting brown, and losing fur?

Elvis' signs of weight loss, vomiting and seizure activity are highly concerning. I'm glad that his blood testing was normal, but in an older cat that is experiencing seizures, a brain tumor is a major concern and will not typically cause any changes on blood testing. An MRI scan is needed for this diagnosis. Normal blood work rules out common causes of weight loss in an older cat, such as kidney disease and hyperthyroidism, but as I mentioned, there is not a specific test for all cancers. Elvis needs to see his vet immediately because his twitching and balance issues could be a result of focal seizures rather than the grand mal seizures to which you are likely accustomed to seeing. Your vet will be able to discuss any recommended diagnostics and treatment options.

Vomiting in cats can be caused by hair balls, intestinal parasites, toxin ingestion, or even foreign body obstructions of the intestines. These signs can be unrelated to the hair loss, which may be caused by certain infections and hormonal or behavioral abnormalities. I recommend having Zimba seen by a vet if he continues to vomit or develops diarrhea or has a loss of appetite/energy. It is possible to be from a food allergy or an environmental allergy. This may be the cause of her vomiting as well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning as they can seen with different gastrointestinal conditions such as dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Ace evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start him on anti-nausea medications. The hair loss is likely unrelated and it is some form of dermatitis which they can check at the time. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!

It looks a bit like scar tissue. If pumpkin had a wound or local skin infection this could be the result. If you use a topical flea preventative she may have had a reaction. If you see any other spots in her body or under her belly, I would have her checked out by a vet. I don’t think it is related to the vomiting. There are many possible causes. But I would discuss it with your vet. Intestinal parasites and food sensitivity would be the most common cause.
