My 6-month-old cat has scabs and hair loss. Could it be allergies?

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Ciciregularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy. This isn't an emergency by any means.

Hair loss in a young kitten is most often due to parasites including fleas, mites and lice. If Maple is not already on a topical flea preventative, I would recommend getting one immediately. Keep in mind that fleas will remain in the environment so you will need to clean/disinfect Maple's bedding as well as any furniture she lies on, blankets etc. If this does not improve the situation, I recommend you take Maple to the veterinarian to check for mites, fungal infections or diseases including allergies.

I would get this seen by your vet to be on the safe side. It may be a healing scab but it looks a little suspicious of ringworm, and that can be easily spread to other pets and people in your household. Another possibility is an allergy to plastic if they have plastic bowls for food or water, but those lesions tend to be located on the chin and lips, not to one side. Your vet will do an exam, probably pluck some hairs from that spot for a fungal culture and may examine some of the cells under a microscope to see if they can identify the cause. Based n these results they should be better able to tell you why this happened and how best to treat it.

I would be really suspicious of ringworm. Although there could be other causes as well such as stick tight fleas, frost bite, infections, etc. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. There could be a couple of things causing these scabs such as mites, allergies, ringworm, or fleas. I think Miran should see a vet before Friday. The vet can diagnose what is causing this skin problem, and can treat him. Best of luck.

Yes, a flea allergy is possible if Toby has fleas (or has even gotten a few flea bites!). Other possible causes of hair loss and scabs could be due to ringworm or mange. Due to Toby's young age, Revolution is the best available flea preventative, but this medication is prescription based. Once he is over 8 weeks of age, Advantage is another OTC option. Be sure to apply one of these flea preventatives once a month. In some cats with flea allergies, skin infections can develop due to excessive itching. At this point, I do recommend that Toby is examined by a vet to start flea control, check for signs of a skin infection (and start antibiotics if needed), as well as rule out the presence of ringworm or mange. I would be worried this is a ringworm or an allergy from fleas or something in the environment. Since they are getting worse and ring worm can be contagious, i would get him seen by a vet. Antibiotics or allergy medicines can be a very simple fix if that is the case.
