My cat has a scabbed growth, losing weight and fur. What's wrong?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are descri bing could be secondary to a bacterial skin infection or allergies. I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look cheech to try and figure okkut why he is losing weight and why he is scratching. He may need s course of an antibiotic if this is a skin infection. I would check his thyroid level as well to make sure the weight loss is not from hyperthyroidism. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Given his symptoms, he should be physically examined by your veterinarian. A fine needle aspirate can be done in the clinic to collect samples for pathology. This may determine if the bump is something that needs to be addressed or simply monitored. Your vet may recommend lab work (CBC, chemistry panel, urinalysis) to diagnose the underlying cause for the vomiting and weight loss. These symptoms have multiple causes. Abdominal x-rays may also be recommended. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, antibiotics, anti-emetics, etc.) can be administered as indicated.

Fleas cannot be the cause for the breathing and other general symptoms, the scabs over the neck could be caused by the fleas. unfortunately this is not all, he seems to be suffering from an infection that is causing those symptoms, you will need to take him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated.

I would get this seen by your vet to be on the safe side. It may be a healing scab but it looks a little suspicious of ringworm, and that can be easily spread to other pets and people in your household. Another possibility is an allergy to plastic if they have plastic bowls for food or water, but those lesions tend to be located on the chin and lips, not to one side. Your vet will do an exam, probably pluck some hairs from that spot for a fungal culture and may examine some of the cells under a microscope to see if they can identify the cause. Based n these results they should be better able to tell you why this happened and how best to treat it.

The deworming pill and the symptoms you described have nothing to do with each other, if he is losing his fur and losing weight he is suffering from something serious. It looks like your cat has a skin infection, most likely caused by allergies or fleas. Jazzy could have a skin infection causing the itching and hair loss. You can try a medicated shampoo but with cats they usually need an antibiotic and possibly a steroid injection for their skin to clear up. Also depending on her age she may need blood work to make sure no underlying issues are causing her thin body condition (thyroid abnormality, kidney issues, parasites)
