What is this scab on my cat's inner thigh and how can I treat it?

Hello, I found this on Hope’s Inner thigh, he’s a street cat who was abandoned by his mother and now I’m caring for him, what is this and how can I treat it?

Its hard to say because of the hair, but this just looks like a scab from a previous injury. Just try to gently remove this with a gauze soaked in Betadine diluted 50:50 with water. If the scab comes off and the skin underneath appears to be almost healed, then there is no further treatment needed. If there are any signs of infection however which includes: discharge, an opening of the skin, muscle exposure, etc, then this needs to be treated by your vet with a course of antibiotics. However, it is very likely this is an old wound that is nearly healed already and the scab is just trying to fall off.

Poor cat. This looks wide enough where it should at the very least get a topical treatment. You can try an over the counter antibitoic ointment or spray from your local pet store. Ask a store representative as to what is available in your area. You should also clean this area with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help keep bacteria and infection at bay. What is this dried blood scab on my cat and how do I treat it?

This looks like a wound from a cat fight or mild injury. You did the right thing removing the scab. If there was infection trapped you have cleaned it up now and the area is open to the air so it should heal quickly. You can clean these type of sores with hydrogen peroxide and if it’s in an area like this that he can’t lick you can apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. This should heal in a few days. Cat has a scab on its neck. What can I do if I can't afford a vet?

It looks like it may be a wound that has developed a scab. This may habe been from a cat fight wound. I would be concerned with how deep this wound goes and a secondary infection. You can make up a light brown solution of Betadine and sterile saline to clean the area and monitor it. If it worsens, I would strongly urge you try to get in to see a vet for proper treatment.

My kitten has a hard, dark, peeling scab on her side. What is it?

It sounds like Ramona somehow injured herself, most likely a puncture wound, and it stabbed over to try and heal itself. The purplish, black is most likely dried up blood. As long as it isn't bleeding or bothering Ramona, and has no signs of infection (yellow/green discharge, foul odor), then i would let it heal on its own. An occasional cleanse with BetDine diluted 50:50 with warm water and a topical very thin layer of Neosprin (don't allow licking for at least 20 mins after application if you can help it) can aid in healing. However if it looks infected or like a deep wound that won't heal well (within 4-7 days), then its best to have your vet look at it and get it treated (i.e. Antibiotics, wound management).

My cat has a scab on her head. Should I see a vet or treat it myself?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to see the scab in this picture but I can see that Zoey is a cutie! This scab could be due to a mild infection or perhaps some mild traumatic lesion. You can consider just monitoring for now if it is just one. If this gets worse or just does not resolve, have her evaluated by your veterinarian then. I would not recommend any products or treatments yet as this may resolve on its own depending on its severity. Good luck and have a great day!

Hello, sorry to hear about your cat. The picture is a little blurry. It could be a scab from a small laceration that will heal on its own and you do not have to do anything about it. A single scab is not consistent with scabies, although, the only way to rule out scabies is by looking for it under a microscope. However, if there was scabies you see it more around the face, ears, and arms of cats. Make sure that Pussy has adequate, monthly flea control especially if she is scratching around her belly and tail/rump area. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This is quite normal and in rare cases the area of hardened skin may indeed fall off and the skin heal from underneath. Applying ointments to cats is rarely recommended as they will groom and swallow much of it. If it is causing pain you should contact your vet for a recheck, often removing the damaged painful area is best
