My cats got flea meds. Is it safe for them to roam with dead fleas?

Hi, thabks for using PetCoach! Flea infestations take about 3-6 weeks to break due to the flea life cycle. All pets in the house should be treated with a good long lasting flea preventative. For cats I recommend Bravecto or Comfortis. For dogs with Nexgard, Bravecto or Simparica. You do need to treat the house: vacuum daily and throw bags out each day or clean canister after each vacuum. Put the bag in an outdoor trash can and keep the cans away from the doors. Keep stray cats and wild life away from your doors by removing door mats and sources of food. Sprinkling boric acid powder before vacuuming can help. I'm so sorry ! Fleas are no fun! You are doing the right thing in treating your house- that is where most of the flea life cycle lives. Zodiac is not one of my favorite meds.... have safety & efficacy concerns. I would use the capstar and get a better topical from your local veterinarian. I would check with them, but you might be able to start the new topical prior to waiting a month. Don't forget that fleas will always have a "hatch out" 3-4 weeks after you treat your house, so don't forget to re-treat. I hope you can Penny comfortable soon! Yes, that is exactly what is happening. There is no product in the world that will prevent a flea from hopping on a pet, but the flea does die shortly after contact with the pet. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, you may in about 5-6 days. However, I would highly recommend you use a stronger and likely more efficacious product. There are plenty of flea products in the market and a lot of them are very effective. I prefer Bravecto and Frontline plus. You can pick one of those products. The nice thing about Bravecto is that it is very effective and it is only applied once every 3 months. You can also use a product called Capstar along with one of the previously mentioned products which can help kill a lot of fleas at once. Remember to vacuum all the surfaces that have contact with your pup regularly. This is very likely going to work well. Good luck and have a great day!

There are 2 products that I particularly like in these cases where different therapies have failed to help. I like Bravecto as a preventative and Capstar to be used concurrently as needed for fleas. Capstar is crucial because it can help kill a lot of fleas at once and it can be used as often as once daily to effect. Also, it is important to vacuum the house and all things that have contact with them frequently. Try this for 1-3 months and if does not make a difference, they may have another type of allergy such as a food allergy or environmental allergy. This is likely going to help. You are doing the right thing by using the Capstar and bathing him but that does not guarantee that no more fleas will be present. I think it would be best to keep them separate for at least a few days to a week until you get a feel of how well controlled Louie’s flea infestation is. I personally do not recommend flea bombs, their safety is questionable as well as their effectiveness in some areas of the house. instead i would recommend to use a flea spray called Indoorex which is the safest and most effective one. i would also recommend using something else than frontline which is not very effective nowadays, try one of those: advantage, comfortis, advocate or bravecto.
