Are human bean plants safe for my cat to eat or play with indoors?

Hello. I would not be concerned as long as the beans did not contain a significant amount of chopped/powdered onion or garlic. Onions & garlic can cause some problems in the blood & symptoms may not show for several days. You might see loss of appetite, depression, increased heart & breathing rate, weakness, jaundice ( yellow tinge to the skin & mucous membranes & a red to brown urine can occur. If Casper ate a small amount, like around 1/2 teaspoon, he will be fine. If he ate a substantial amount, you might need to take him to your vet quickly to have him cleaned out. The chia pet plant is not toxic to cats so if Cid were to ingest / chew on the plant, he should be fine. It would probably be best to not allow Cid to chew / eat the plant to prevent any GI upset. I recommend keeping table foods to 10% or less of the diet. All the foods you listed are not toxic and could be offered: onion, garlic, and fatty foods would be the main ones to avoid. I don’t think supplementing with KMR would be necessary for your other cat - you would be better off offering canned cat food mixed with water as it is nutritionally complete for an adult. While petroleum jelly would be okay you may have difficulty getting your cats to eat it.

Hi, I think Axel will be fine. The amount of salt on the bean will still not be enough to cause a significant problem and Edamame beans are not toxic to cats if accidentally ingested. There is no benefit in feeding them Edamame beans ongoing but there is no harm in having it as a one off occasion. I hope this makes sense !

Hello. It is always best to be safe than to be sorry. If you are at all unsure about a plant, it may be best to either move it to a room the cat cannot get access to, or rehome the plant. Corn plants contain saponins which are toxic to cats. Signs of toxicity include vomiting ( occasionally with blood), anorexia, depression, hypersalivation, & dilated pupils. If your cat shows any signs of these in the next several hours, than please call your vet immediately. In the meantime, please remove this plant from your home. If this is a corn plant (Cornstalk dracaena), here is the information about this plant- In cats: dilated pupils, breathing difficulty, abdominal pain, increased heartrate and drooling. In both cats and dogs: vomiting, depression, inappetence, drooling, incoordination, and weakness. Don't ever give milk to adult cats or dogs. They cannot break down the sugar in milk (lactose) and can develop vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, intestinal cramping, etc. They are essentially lactose intolerant once they grow up. If Tigger develops any of the signs listed above, call your vet immediately. Good luck
