Why is my cat still sick with ringworm symptoms after negative tests?

Based on your pictures and the fact that people in the house are dealing with ringworm, I would say that this is definitely high on my list of possibilities for Herbie. I would begin treating him with topical medications. Below is what I would recommend using. Begin using immediately and see if there is any improvement with Herbie. Also, I would recommend having all of the humans in the house examined by a GP so that you can begin treating the ringworm on yourselves and not continue reinfecting yourselves or Herbie. 1. Douxo PS Chlorhexidine Combination shampoo and bathe him twice weekly until resolved 2. Miconahex + Triz Spray OR Malacetic conditioning spray and apply twice daily to the affected areas until resolved all of the products above can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps! Hi and thank you for using PetCoach. If the fungal infection is ringworm, it can take weeks to months to fully resolve. Many times treating the environment as well as the cat is needed. Keep Mia indoors may make it easier to contain the infection and prevent reinfection. The vet can look at hairs under the microscope or try to culture the fungus from Mia to assess if she still has it. Although a picture of it could help to determine more specifically the underlying cause of it, it is likely that the ringworm infection has spread even further and it is now affecting mouth area. I would recommend to start more effective and powerful treatment as anti-fungal medication (even ointment could be beneficial and resolutive). Hello. Yes, sometimes ringworm can be stubborn. If your cat has numerous lesions, or they are along the eyes and mouth, your cat should be on an oral antifungal medication. Also, cats will often lick the medication off as soon as you apply it, so it is not effective. If you are not using an Elizabethan collar, that could help prevent licking. Cases that do not respond to topical treatment often do better with a prescription oral antifungal. I would also make sure that it is actually ringworm. It may need to be rechecked by your veterinarian. Thank you

The cream isn't harmful but I have never come across a topical medication that has been effective for treating ringworm in cats aside from prescription-based lime sulfur dips. The concern is that the Microsporum canis (fungal organism causing ringworm) is spread diffusely throughout a cat's entire hair coat, such that an isolated topical spray will not cover all surfaces of every hair, and lead to frequent recurrence. Since the topical treatment isn't working and Nova's spots are worse, I would go back to the vet to get an oral treatment. I hope that all goes well!

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your concerns about Slinky! A lime dip is important in that it sterilizes the coat to stop further growth of ringworm. That is important in that it prevents the further growth of spores that can re-contaminate the environment. The environment can be a continuing source of spores, so you want to do everything you can to prevent that. Has he been tested for any of these conditions? Typically a fungal culture, impression smears and skin scrapes are performed. This will direct treatment. A food allergy should also be considered and he may require a prescription diet trial. A hydrolyzed diet is a one where the protein source is chopped into tiny pieces so that the body's immune system will not recognize it and therefore not react. This would be my next recommendation.
