My Bengal cat has a red, raw, crusty spot on his back. What is it?

Poor Snickett! Those spots on Snickett could be several things including allergies to fleas, something in the environment or food. Thyroid disease can also cause skin problems. I recommend for him to be examined by his veterinarian as they will likely prescribe treatment since it's all down his back. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they are unlikely to address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you flea Bull regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

Sylvestor's skin lesion looks quite inflamed and could be due to a skin infection from underlying allergies, ringworm or mange. I recommend taking him to the vet to rule out ringworm and mange, as these can be transmitted to people or other animals. If these issues are ruled out, Sylvestor may need topical or oral antibiotics to manage a skin infection, likely caused by allergies. Allergies in animals often occur to fleas (even one flea bite can cause issues in sensitive animals!), food or the surrounding environment, which then cause an animal to itch and develop a skin infection from itching. The vet will be able to prescribe appropriate medication to clear up this issue before it worsens. I hope that all goes well!

This could be the result of an insect bite reaction or a wound. If there is no swelling around the leg and the lesion appears superficial then you can try washing it with a mild soapy water and observing the area for a day or two. If it increases in size, swelling develops around the area, the area becomes hot or painful, or is not looking less aggravated as time passes then a visit to the vet may be needed for antibiotic or steroid therapy.

I am sorry to hear about Jack! I would be concerned these could be a bacterial or fungal infection of the skin, and possibly a condition in cats called eosinophilic plaques or eosinophilic granuloma syndrome, which can be incited due to an allergy and usually resolves with steroid treatment. I would recommend bringing Jack in to his vet for an examination of the area.

This is a little spot of wet dermatitis, a superficial infection of the skin. It will usually settle if you can stop her licking at it and bathe it daily with hibi scrub. If it starts to spread or worsen you will need to go to the vet for medication.

It's difficult to compare the size of the area in the 2 pictures, but if the area is getting larger, then I would certainly recommend having your veterinarian examine Muffin. The best way for us to decide how to treat skin problems is to do some simple skin tests and examine a sample under the microscope. That will determine if there is a bacterial infection, fungal infection, yeast infection or even a parasitic infection like mites. I wish I could give you an answer by just looking at the picture, but since Bacitracin isn't working it's time for some additional testing to figure out what is going on. Good luck!
