My cat's ears are red and bumpy after mite treatment. Can Petco help?

I recommend taking her to a vet so they can test the contents of the ear to find out what kind of infection it is. Once they know, they can prescribe a medication to treat the infection and pain. I recommend cleaning the scab and using an antibacterial ointment on it. It should heal in a few days to a week. For the ears, dark discharge can be ear wax, mites or a yeast or bacterial infection. PetCo does sell natural ear products. Please talk with an assistant in the store to purchase the best one. If after using it her ears don't improve then you should take Cha Cha to the veterinarian for an exam and treatment. If you are noticing redness after the treatment, stop using it. Duchess could be having a reaction to the medication. Revolution applied to the back of the neck will kill ear mites but the treatment must continue for 2-3 months. Use a routine ear cleaner during this time to help clean out the ear wax. Other treatments are also available for ear mite treatment. I recommend to talk with your veterinarian about alternative treatments. Judging from the photos you have provided, I would suspect this to be a severe allergic reaction or something such as a cancerous skin condition of the ear pinna. Carbon has milliary dermatitis. It is often caused by a reaction to insect bites like knats, or from allergies. Basically it is a skin infection/irritation. Usually it will clear up on its own if the cause is gone. You can clean the skin with a mild antibacterial pad and apply antibacterial ointment. If Carbon goes outside using a flea prevention product will help repell insects too. Allergies are often seasonal so as it cools off and the bugs and humidity go away this should resolve. I am sorry to hear about your concern for Jinx! It is possible that Jinx had ear mites (you can read more about ear mites at: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951535) but without testing it is hard to say as it is also possible she could have a bacterial or yeast infection in the ear called otitis externa which can cause similar symptoms. Redness/inflammation could be the result of residual irritation from mites, from another infection, or a reaction to the medication. IF the redness continues or she is scratching at/rubbing her ears I would recommend bringing her in to the vet for an exam.
