My cat has a skin scab and ear mites. What Petco products help?

It looks like Chubby has been scratching his ears or that he has an infection of the outside of the ear. Since he was just treated for mites I’d recommend rechecking with your vet so they can see if he still has mites or an infection in his ear canal. There is not an over the counter medication that I would recommend using.

As long as it is not bothering Koda, she is not scratching the ear excessively and there is no discharge around the scab, you should monitor her at home. It should fully heal up in 5-7 days. However, if the ear becomes swollen or painful, you will have to take her to your local vets for an appointment.

This appears to be some sort of topical dermatitis. It can be caused by an underlying allergy, a bacterial infection or a fungal infection. You will most likely need to put a topical medication on the sores to help them clear up. You can try some triple antibiotic ointment at home and see if that helps. The most likely cause for scabs and bumps in that location is scratching due to itchiness, and the most common cause for this is either ear mites or fleas. I recommend using a cat safe flea/mite product. I would otherwise leave the bumps alone, and do not apply any products. If the flea/mite treatment doesn't work, then I would have her seen by a vet to see if there is a different cause. Best of luck with Lydia!

Please do not put canola oil in Roote's ears! This does not treat ear mites at all, it makes the condition worse, and you could have done damage to his ear drum by doing this. He needs to see vet for this problem immediately. He is showing you he is in pain and distress from this condition by scratching his cheek until there is no fur left. Please stop putting canola oil in his ears, and take him into a vet now.

This scab could be due to a mild infection or perhaps some mild traumatic lesion. You can consider just monitoring for now if it is just one. If this gets worse or just does not resolve, have her evaluated by your veterinarian then. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Blossom! Her skin on her ears looks bad. I think she should see a Vet to diagnose the cause and start treatment. Possible causes are food allergies, ringworm, mites. You can play with her diet and see if changing the protein helps for long term management. If an animal has a food allergy chicken tends to be the most common allegen. But that won’t help her feel better in the short term. Ringworm is diagnosed on fungal culture and mites on a skin scrape. An infection is treated with antibiotics and steroids. I hope this helps and I wish Blossom a speedy recovery!
