My cat has reabsorbed teeth but no pain. Should I still remove them?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10.3 lbs

My 10 yr old cat, Samy, was diagnosed as needing 2 teeth extracted due to their being reabsorbed. He does not seem to be in pain, as he is still eating his dry cat food. If there are two bad teeth now, does it usually follow that the others will also become diseased? What would happen if these teeth were not removed?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It is possible that if these teeth were left in that they would affect the surrounding teeth, which is why it would be important to have them removed. If the teeth are left in, they will likely continue resorbing but they can become quite painful if not addressed. I would recommend having these teeth addressed sooner rather than later. As Dr Fernandez recommended, taking him in to the vet would be highly recommended. Regarding being worried about him swallowing the tooth should it fall out on its own--the answer there is that you do not need to worry about it. If he were to swallow a tooth, it would be digested enough by the acid in the stomach to pass without a problem.

So sorry that your cat is having this problem. You could take him to a veterinary dental specialist and see if the specialist will remove his tooth. Or find another vet in your area and take him for a second opinion. If his blood work is normal and he is in otherwise good health, then the risk of extracting a bad tooth is low. Prices vary in different geographical locations and also by individual clinic so it’s impossible to know how much it may cost for her. Should my dog's carnassial teeth be removed if he shows no pain?

Based on the attached pictures, I would recommend removal of the carnassial tooth as well as the too the next to it. There is significant loss of bone around the roots and should really come out now. The vet may have recommended referral to a vet with more experience as these teeth can be challenging to remove due to their size, location, and number of roots.
